Seriously, it does. I mean, say what you will about his films, but at least as far as the Sound and the effects go, they are usually great. But....

Transformers - 3 noms, 0 wins
Pearl Harbor - 4 noms, 1 win (and not for Effects)
Armageddon - 4 noms, 0 wins (it lost Effects to What Dreams May Come!)
The Rock - 1 nom, 0 wins

I'm somewhat surprised there are any nominations at all.

his films kinda suck, so the fact that they constantly pick up noms -- and the fact that he was included in some montage at this year's Oscars -- show that this isn't true.

The Rock is the best action film ever made.

Period

Bay is very hit and miss

Bad Boys - N/A
The Rock - Great
Armageddon - ok
Pearl Harbour - :grrr:
Bad Boys 2 - Probably one of my least favorite movies ever :grrr: :grrr: :grrr:
The Island - Dumb but still kind of fun
Transformers - AWESOME!

Why people hate Pearl Harbor so much?

I really hate Island - one of the worst films I've ever seen. Still can't forget these funny bugs that get through your eyes and leave with urine. I died laughing in theater!

I haven't seen the Bad Boys movies, but Bay has only made one great film - The Rock. The rest range from okay (Armageddon) to downright terrible (pretty much everything else).

I don't know why people hate Michael Bay. He really only had one bad film (Peral Harbor). Bad Boys I/II, Armageddon, and Island are solid films. The Rock & Transformerse are great blockbuster films.

It's not like he intends to make serious films" His intention is to make a good big-budget blockbuster film, and almost always deliver. Nothing wrong with that at all.

Totally agree. I think its just one of those internet things where its "cool" to bash a mainstream director.

I hate Pearl Harbour - but The Rock, Transformers, Bad Boys and The Island are great entertainment.

When you look at historical epics... all of them, without exception are not really "historical". All of them have a certain amount of fiction in them.

I just think that Pearl Harbor has too much fiction and fiction handled poorly. Much more than the average "historical epic".

I actually thought Transformers was far better than Armageddon.

I didn't think Pearl Harbor was really that bad. But why we had to have that entire last hour with the raids in Japan is totally beyond me. First, I was under the impression that the movie was called "Pearl Harbor," and second, it kind of makes it out to seem like WWII went something like "We (United States) were unexpectedly attacked at Pearl Harbor and then ra-ra-ra we flew into Japan, kicked ass, and with one decisive blow won freedom for the world!"

Michael Bay isn't a horrible director. He's just better left blowing shit up instead of handling dialogue... which is why I'm still amazed that The Island actually turned out to be a pretty good movie.

Bay's worst film is easily Transformers.

And Pearl Harbor is underrated.

Ok.. if his films actually suck..

Does that have anything to do with winning in Effects or Sound categories??

Pearl Harbor and A.I. both had better visual effects than FOTR, too bad they lost. The only LOTR film that truly deserve the effects Oscar was ROTK.

Yay Lists!

Pearl Harbor - :grrr:
Armageddon - mediocre
Bad Boys II - :grrr:
The Island - Great, a very pleasant surprise
Transformers - Solid entertainment

I thought the FOTR effects were better than ROTK. There are some average effects in ROTK, especially in the latter half of the film. I'd even go as far as saying Matrix Reloaded deserved the win over it.

As for Bay's films, i'd rank them:

Transformers (A)
The Rock (A)
The Island (A)
Bad Boys (B+)
Armageddon (B-)
Pearl Harbour (C)

Havnt seen Bad Boys II

In terms of my expectations - Pearl Harbour goes down as the most dissapointing film experience ever.
