Will the Globes Go 0 for 2?
For their BP winners....doesn't seem like either one will get a BP nominee.
Has that ever happened?

This seems to be the final nail in the Globes irrelevance coffin.

I think Atonement is back in the BP race.

How would this win change anything for Atonement this late in the game? Guilds ignored it. 86 nobodies said "ok, sure" in a largely non-televised event.

I think Atonement is in the race, especially with the complete snub of Juno. Its looking for one of the last few spots though, so if something like Diving Bell catches fire (possible after tonight) it could be left out.

Oscar nom ballots were already due, right? So this should have no impact.

It has no impact, but...it means that we might be thinking about the Oscar nominations the wrong way.

I don't think the guilds are the be all, end all for Oscar noms, which is what a lot of people seem to be hung up on.
We haven't even heard from PGA yet.

I think one of Atonement or Sweeney Todd will end up being nominated.
Like Libs said, we haven't heard from PGA. It's possible the PGA will end up nominating one of them (Atonement or Sweeney Todd) which would further up their standing.
So, who knows. Exciting!
Peace, Mike

Re: Will the Globes Go 0 for 2?
I've been completely confused about the possible Atonement snub all along. Maybe the screeners really did play a big role in it being snubbed at all the guild awards?
Comedy will be like last year. The musical wins the globe, the comedy gets the Oscar nomination.

I have a feeling that could be the single biggest factor for Atonement's snubs across the guilds.

It's not really doing much better than Atonement or Sweeney Todd overall. It missed the SAG Ensemble/DGA as well. Though I suppose PGA could change it. Peace, Mike

What I'd like to know is why anyone really cares about these awards. They're too busy making certain to be politically correct to be worth anything, let alone actually awarding the best candidate in each category.

Re: Will the Globes Go 0 for 2?
What happened with the screeners? A DVD Screener leaked online on the 21st of December, with "For Award Consideration" lines running thru certain scenes of the film. I assume it was sent out...

Do you guys think Diving Bell could've won BP if Foreign language films were eligible? Getting BD was really, really impressive.

Yeah, it is ahead of Juno at the moment, but Diving bell looks stronger. I want to see Michael Clayton out, but it is very much in. Juno, Atonement and Diving Bell fights for the fifth spot.

I have a feeling that could be the single biggest factor for Atonement's snubs across the guilds. Yeah but Atonement didn't pull a goose-egg like Iwo Jima, it showed in the ADG and ACE. It'd be kind of weird if they got screeners out to two groups of voters, and then lost them in the mail for the other 4 or something.

But then again, if that is the reason, maybe Atonement can still win this fucking thing.

I'm starting to think that it really had something to do with the lack of screeners. Because, c'mon, snubbing it at the WGA and for Editing was simply quite stupid.

Yes, they will. The Globes are a joke when it comes to being relevant for the Academy though I apllaud their Atonement pick
