The National Society of Film Critics named "There Will Be Blood" Best Picture of the Year for 2007.

Pic, which is based on Upton Sinclair's novel, "Oil!," stars Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano. Day Lewis picked up Best Actor honors while helmer Paul Thomas Anderson won Best Director. It's the director's first feature film since 2004's "Punch Drunk Love."

Other notable winners included Julie Christie, who was named Best Actress for her role in "Away From Her," and Tamara Jenkins, who picked up Best Screenplay for penning "The Savages."

The National Society, made up of the country's top movie critics, held its 42nd annual awards voting meeting Saturday in New York.

The results of the meeting were dedicated to film critic and author, Hollis Alpert, who was also one of the Society's co-founders in 1966.

Unfortunately a slightly ho hum ending to the film critics season. Still, not nearly as routine as some of the critics awards.

Interesting that Casey Affleck won.

Another strong showings by Diving Bell, although weird that it didn't win Foreign.

And I still think Frank Langella is in a good position for a nom, better than say Depp.

Otherwise, pretty ho-hum.

This is crazy fun stuff.
No Country in 3rd? Behind Diving Bell? But Diving Bell doesn't win foreign? The Savages wins Screenplay? And not just original screenplay, overall screenplay?

All kinds of awesome.
Basically, great for Diving Bell, The Savages and TWBB, and fine for No Country.

Huh? The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is # overall and still doesn't win foreign? That's somehow screwed up.

There Will Be Blood is in a great position, still. Much better than, say, United 93 was last year.

There Will Be Blood = beast.
