Atonement
Into the Wild
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood
Zodiac

This year’s finalists, in alphabetical order by film title, are: screenwriter Christopher Hampton for “Atonement,” based on the novel by Ian McEwan; screenwriter Sean Penn and adventure writer Jon Krakauer for “Into the Wild”; screenwriters Joel and Ethan Coen and Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Cormac McCarthy for “No Country for Old Men”; screenwriter Paul Thomas Anderson for “There Will Be Blood,” based on the book “Oil” by Upton Sinclair; and true-crime author—and former San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist—Robert Graysmith for “Zodiac,” adapted by James Vanderbilt.

Fantastic for Zodiac. I hope all this end-of-the-year attention means it can manage at least a couple Oscar nods.

Pretty ho hum nominees (Outside of Zodiac, of course), especially when compared to last year's wacky nominees (I mean, The Illusionist?!). They're usually pretty unpredictable when it comes to winners though, so NCFOM is hardly locked to win (Just look back at Seabiscuit and Mystic River beating ROTK three years back, LMAO).

Though I guess quality wise, these aren't AWFUL. The two I've seen are probably my two favorite Adapted screenplays of the year (NCFOM & Zodiac).

Look like a pretty good Adapted Screenplay lineup. Zodiac could be replaced by CWW, but the entire 5 could also all make it.

Nice for Zodiac! I thought it was either that or Bourne Ultimatum that will get it.

surprised to see no Juno...it looked like the Screenplay favorite. But I like these picks.

That's original, not adapted from any novels.

oh, I didn't know this was for adaptations only, just thought it was a coincidence that the noms were all adapted.

Meh...Diving Bell had a better adapted screenplay than at least 3 of those. Or is this an American/english-language only thing?

well, it's not American, since Atonement's on there.

Just looked up the rules...it's english language only, which explains the lack of Diving Bell.

or...maybe they wouldn't have nominated it anyways. It's not like any of the nominees were weak or close to it.

Strong line-up. As xiayun said, I expect a similar one at the Oscars, with Charlie Wilson's War replacing either Zodiac or Into the Wild.

No Country for Old Men wins.

NCFOM wins everything this season.

good pick. I'd really like TWBB to start winning more than NCFOM, since NCFOM has the fact that it's been the lead contender for so long on its side...TWBB needs to perform stronger...I think a DGA/PGA win would be HUGE for Blood.
