I was just wondering who the actors/actresses are with most Golden Globes noms (and I mean only movie noms, not for TV series or mini-series), but not a single Oscar nomination to date?


I've come up with the following:


Jim Carrey - 6 noms (2 wins)
Scarlett Johansson - 4 noms
Cameron Diaz - 4 noms
Jamie Lee Curtis - 3 noms (1 win)
Hugh Grant - 3 noms (1 win)
Jeff Daniels - 3 noms
Meg Ryan - 3 noms


Jim Carrey seems to be the champion here...

Um, he's won an Oscar (for A Fish Called Wanda).

Anyways, this list is primarily composed of comedic actors, which is to be expected.

Indeed, I thought the same thing. Though Jim Carrey won in Best Actor Drama for The Truman Show. Such a snub by the Academy there.

As for Johansson, two of her noms were in Drama and one supporting. Three of Diaz' four noms were in supporting as well.

The rest, yeah, Comedy/Musical mostly.

I think even when comedic actors cross over into dramatic roles, they're still stuck with the stigma of having done those comedic roles. I mean, everyone on that list, besides Scarlett, has a long history of doing either silly, stupid, uproarious comedies or gushy romantic comedies, neither of which are the low-key stuff that gets nommed for Oscars (Juno, LMS, Sideways, etc.). I mean, Carrey and Daniels were in Dumb + Dumber. The Academy is never going to recognize them, despite how amazing their dramatic performances may be, because of that.

I think Carrey will definitely be nominated one day and might win. Even Bill Murray has had his Lost in Translation.

And Jess Daniels at least deserved a nom for The Lookout...

I'm still waiting for Grant's nomination... so sad

we all know the Oscars do not seen comedic roles being anywhere as good as dramatic roles...

the fact that they even nominated Johnny Depp for Curse of the Black Pearl shows that this is not true. Comedic performances often don't ever get into enough emotional depth to grab their hearts over a more tragic performance.
