Best New Filmmaker - Ben Affleck for Gone Baby Gone

Best Cinematography - Janusz Kaminski for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Good for both, especially Diving Bell.

Cool for Affleck + Gilroy (Who was removed for whatever reason after they added Cinematography). Kinda dull so far, hopefully they're quick to announce awards.

Ehhh....maybe it's a Boston thing.

Her performance ain't got nothing on Cate's.

Two in a row for Amy Ryan.

Hm, 2/2 for Ryan now. Blanchett can't be pleased.

These have a REALLY awesome track record for wins, in terms of coolness. Observe.

Actually, these guys are 4/11 in the last 10 years for S. Actress, so that might not be a good thing.

His first and certainly not last of the season. Cool.

I'm super psyched about Ratatouille's win. Anything to lead credence to it being a Best Picture nominee at the Oscars is great. I hope it keeps winning as much as it can everywhere.

Peace,
Mike

Yay Javier Bardem and Amy Ryan (my own personal choices for Supporting Actor and Actress right now)

And go Ratatouille, Best Screenplay!

I'm so glad for Ratatouille.

And good for Affleck.

And first of many wins for Cotillard. She is going to split the critic awards with Christie.

Actor will be interesting. Five of their last six winners went on to win at the Oscars (Including Brody in '02), but after that they have a four year streak of actors that didn't even get noms (Plus Brian Cox for L.I.E. in 2001, who tied with Washington). And they have such a wide range of choices it might not matter to the winner's chances.

I really, really hope Cotillard gets the Oscar nom. She deserves the win.

She's a lock for nomination. The only thing holding her back from being the frontrunner is small box office ($10.1 million), and that it's a foreign language film. If it were in English she might be unstoppable.

Frank Langella gets Actor.
Hmmm

Frank Langella! He is looking more and more likely for a nomination. He is actually No. 3 on my ranking now, more likely than Washington and all the other contenders except for the top 2.

Best Actor goes to Frank Langella!! Yay, finally a non-predictable win.

Peace,
Mike

So...have the two "frontrunners" for actor (DDL and Depp) received anything yet?
