The only good thing about A Mighty Heart is Angelina Jolie's performance.

And... The Savages for pretty much some biggies but no Linney or Best Film?

Good to see some recognitions for Lust, Caution. All three noms are deserved, IMO.

I'm always not sure about their eligibility rules, so for the well-reviewed contenders that missed out here completely, I'd assume they're not eligible.

I'm Not There didn't get a screenplay nod, while Juno did, so they look like the co-frontrunner for the Feature win right now.

The Savages made a good showing as well, and Frank Langella got his first mention.

Are these the ones that give out the award the night before the Oscars?? Why are the noms out so early?

Biggest misses are Laura Linney and Marion Cotillard

Nice showing for Juno and I'm Not There. And as I've mentioned before, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is bound to make a splash... I wonder if it will stir things up for the Oscars.

Yes, they air a day before the Oscars.

I don't know about Diving Bell's other chances but I think Janusz Kaminski should get a Cinematography nod for it.

Isn't he Holly Hunter's husband???

Are they the ones that put a certain amount for production budget eligibility?

Great to see Quiet City, by fellow Portlander Aaron Katz getting some much deserved recognition. He's going places, that one is.

Yeah, something like less than $20m.

Wonderful surprise for Sienna Miller in Interview. She was fantastic. I was blown away. She should win the Oscar, but she won't even get a nom.

Okay, I'm getting seriously excited now for the awards to come. Amazing season! :D I think this year, there won't be as many clear frontrunners as in the recent years.

Okay, so my comments on these:

How the hell did The Savages get so many big noms, but missed out on Best Actress?!

I'm Not There not nominated for Best Screenplay? Might undermine its winning chances here a bit. Right now, I'd say Juno has the slught edge.

No Best Actor nom for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is surprising as well, though I'm happy they remembered Don Cheadle for Talk to Me.

Poor showing for Before the Devil Knows You're Dead. I really would have expected more.

VERY DESERVING nomination. I think if enough Academy members see the film, he could maybe be considered for an Oscar nomination. After Blanchett, his was the best performance.

YAY! John Carney

Maybe they'll arrange a American DVD release of Bachelors Walk after all this Once success.

Do these always come out so early?

Good for I'm Not There, though. I haven't really been paying attention to the film in terms of Oscar. How far are people thinking it'll go aside from Cate Blanchett?

Also, Irfan Khan for The Namesake is a great nomination.

Not too far. The little kid in the movie may be in the running for a nomination. he was very good.
I think it's gonna get a great following but in the end be a bit too out there to drum up enough unanimous support for anything like Director... maybe screenplay (is it original or adapted? I'd say original, but if it's adapted, you can forget about a nom there)

I'm Not There seems to be really scoring with the indie crowd. It's even doing better than Juno or The Savages, two films considered strong contenders for BP noms. I wonder if it could somehow enter the race for more than just Cate. If anything, Original Screenplay nod could be in order. I doubt it'll pick up a BP/BD nom.
