The early RT score doesn't look encouraging, at all, but what makes things even worse is the fact that it was panned by Variety AND HR which is never a good sign for a potential nominee. Emanuel Levy wasn't fond of it either: http://uk.rottentomatoes.com/m/rendition/ That leaves more space for Lions for Lambs and Charlie Wilson's War. |

Well it's still early... Ebert also called it "perfect", giving it light. |

I actually thought the trailer looked potentially dcent but yowza, HR and Variety really make it out to be pretty shitty. |

yeah the "tell me he's ok part" was awful although i do think reese looked like she was a lot better in the moments of quiet desperation in the film. Ebert's review isn't the only great one for the film. And I don't really think Hollywood Reporter/Variety are that important (the only reason they get so much attention for their reviews is they're usually the two FIRST major publications to have reviews out for films). In spite of that, I do agree that in this case it the film doesn't really stand much of a chance in the Oscar race. |

I guess I'm the only one who liked that line... |

The reasons THR and Variety are important are 1) their reviews come out early; 2) their reviews tend to correlate well with the rest of print critics, i.e. a film normally won't receive a 80%+ RT without getting positive reviews from both, and a film is almost never getting nominated for Best Picture without receiving at least one positive from them (the only exception in last some years is The Pianist). Combining both, they give us a very early clue on how a film will be received from the rest of critics in general. Mixed and mild negatives are not necessarily daggers, but one outright pan, let alone two like the case here, pretty much seals the deal. |

I love Cold Mountain (and loved Zellweger in it), but I definitely cringed when she had that speech. |

Lol i actually think within the context of the story the It's raining line worked for Cold Mountain. (though for some reason people often reference the quote from the trailer. which is NOT quite the same as the one in the actual film). I don't even mind the LINE itself in Rendition. It's the way in which Reese Witherspoon delivers it. Not convincing at all. |

THat's why I hate it even more... it's completely different (heavily edited) and much annoying in the trailer. |

It's up to 50% now without Ebert's review taken into account. I don't know about its Oscar chances but as far as it RT score, I think it could go either way right now. It'll probably end up being just barely "fresh" or just below the "rotten" mark |
