I wanted to make this immediately after seeing it but I let it sit for a few days and the feeling is still the same.

I doubt I shall see a better film this year. Its superbly crafted in every area and despite anybody labelling it "not important" I do think the oscar voters will plump for this as the best come next year.

As for Knightley/McAvoy/Ronan I can't say, they are all superb but best performer is still a vague area. But as for the film I'll stick my neck out.

So who is with me? :)

What the heck, I'm in.

It does have alot of obstacles and being non-American, British will probably hurt it most when going for the win if it's strong enough, but I have been forever under this films' spell since I saw that amazing 2 minute trailer so I will join. Plus, I never join these things. :)

I'm glad others agree and that it looks as if I'm not falling flat on my ass for my early hymnic praise

Although the themes it explores aren't quite the same (I think..I haven't seen the film) I got a "The English Patient" vibe from it since the first time I saw the trailer.

And although there are many other contenders I can't see any of them actually WINNING.

So I'm in.

I think it's about the right time for a hardcore British production/period piece to win Best Picture, after many years of "United States contemporary/topical dramas," right?

So in.

It reminds me of The English Patient 10 years ago somehow too, Rod. I mentioned it before.

I'm in. I love the trailer, and my gut just tells me this will be the one to stay afloat until the end and take home the Oscar for Best Picture. And I don't know what happened, but recently I've been in love with Kiera Knightley. I never found her that appealing before, but suddenly she became a serious actress, and I'm loving her.

Peace,
Mike

It it's Best Picture winner, then NOT IN! Sorry, Gulli, but somehow I think THERE WILL BE BLOOD or even AMERICAN GANGSTER have more chances of winning right now.

However, I think it will get nominated for Best Picture.

A of 10/22, I think these will be the best picture nominees:

American Gangster
Atonement
No Country For Old Men
There Will Be Blood
????

There Will Be Blood looks way too non-mainstream to win Best Picture. It's no not an Academy movie. I think the enormous praise it is going to get will triumph in a nomination but not a win.

And I'm not going to talk about American Gangster till it comes out. I have strong gut feelings on it but they seem to be in the minority so I'll keep my mouth shut till they are either confirmed or dead wrong. :P

I really wish they would move the US release date to earlier in December, thats the only issue I have with the rollout strategy at the moment.

No way. They would never do that with Charlie Wilson and Sweeney Todd opening on Christmas... and There Will Be Blood I think too.

The official site says December 7th and I think it's gonna be wide which is a mistake but oh well.
