Just saw the trailer, it opens in late June....any Oscar hopes, has a pretty strong cast.

* Clare Daines
* Meryl Strepp
* Glenn Close
* Patrick Wilson
* Toni Collette

:happy:

Peter Travers from Rolling Stone raved about the performances but didn't seem to like the the film itself. So if that is any indication it will be yet another mediocre film with great performances.

It's too bad. It will mean it will be yet another year at least before Claire Danes is nominated. It has to happen. Someday.

"Susan Minot’s resplendent novel of a dying woman, Ann Lord (Vanessa Redgrave), remembering her defining romance with the man who got away (Patrick Wilson) stumbles on its way to the screen. Hungarian director Lajos Koltai (Fateless) pushes emotions that need to flow. But the actors, including Toni Collette and Natasha Richardson (Redgrave is her mom) as Ann’s daughters, provide flashes of brilliance. Hugh Dancy scores as the plot’s catalyst for tragedy. And Claire Danes is stellar as the young Ann, attending the Newport, Rhode Island, wedding of her friend Lila (Mamie Gummer). Even if you don’t know that Gummer, 23, is the daughter of Meryl Streep, who plays the older Lila, the resemblance hits you instantly. But Gummer proves her talent is her own in a star-is-born performance that signals an exceptional career ahead. "

This review is weird. 2 and a half stars, Travers?

P.S. - Claire Danes will be nominated in the near future Rod, don't worry. :shades:

It's too bad the trailer is a melodramatic nightmare. "You see that star? That's our star." is almost as cringe worthy as the part where that girl says to Toni Collete that if she fucks up everything around her she'll end up alone. Blech.

Great cast on paper...doesn't look like it'll amount to a lot, but it may get a few acting nods.

Saw Evening tonight....didn't like it...

The acting was so so....never really liked Toni Collette nor Claire Danes....

I guess this movie is so not within my age group......oh well, at least Hugh Dancy and Patrick Wilson are hot... :unsure:

This kind of movie will either get nothing or everything. If it came out during Oscar season, it would be an Oscar darling despite the fact that it was a really bad film.

Focus Features will not push this around Oscar time, they have like, five huge contenders.
