I mean, Borat could get a screenplay nom and the reviews for Knocked Up are equally universally stellar. It's at 93% at RT and has a 8.2/10 average. With it definitely being a big hit, I think a screenplay nom is very well possible...And likely a Best Comedy/Musical nom at the Globes too!

As you said, at the Globes it may have some chances, but at the Academy Awards I think the chances are zero. Borat had the added value of being a Fakumentary and not your typical comedy. Then again, we have to wait until the end of the year to see what else is available.

Maybe, but it's getting released a little too early I think. A Globe nod or two is likely, but probably no Oscar nods.

I like its chance, especially with the good legs it's going to have. The 40 Year Old Virgin was nominated for WGA, and Knocked Up looks to have better reviews.

Yeah, it's possible. If it gets terrific reviews (i.e., stays in the 90s) and outgrosses 40 Year Old Virgin, I can see it getting recognised.

it will get recognized at the Golden Globes the academy will probably be too snobby like usual though.

It's harder to get recognized at GG since there is only one combined screenplay category. I haven't checked, but almost all, if not all, films get nominated for screenplay at GG are nominated at Oscar.

40YOV was so close of getting a nom that it's very likely they'll want to compensate that snub with this one.

Yeah I was about to say that, a lot of the members were apparantley upset with the 40YOV not getting a nom... They'll make up for it here I think.

If EW is to be believed, many members were annoyed even Carell and Keener were snubbed. Or EW was just trying to make fun of the Oscars for going for smaller movies, but whatever.

Anyway, I do Knocked Up is looking very likely for a nom. It appears to be better and more accessible than Virgin, and if it really breaks out...yeah.

Have you heard some of the language? Holy cow. It'll be tough. But it's possible

Language should not be a factor. I mean, something as bawdy as Borat even got an Oscar nomination.

Exactly what I was going to say.

(Not to mention movies like The Departed...)

Unless it flops, I have a hard time not seeing it show up around awards time (Well, for as much as a raunchy R-rated Hollywood comedy can show up for). I wonder how much of a GG contender it is...

Can Knocked Up get more than Screenplay?

I really, really hope not. The script is just not that good. But, as Magnus said, Borat - which probably didn't have much of a script - was nominated, so you never know...
