Well, the question's pretty simple and it came to my mind witnessing all the hatred for Babel... Here are the films nominated for BP in that period: 2006: Babel The Departed Little Miss Sunshine The Queen Letters from Iwo Jima 2005: Crash Good Night, and Good Luck Brokeback Mountain Munich Capote 2004: Million Dollar Baby The Aviator Finding Neverland Ray Sideways 2003: Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King Mystic River Seabiscuit Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Lost in Translation 2002: Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers The Hours Chicago Gangs of New York The Pianist 2001: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring In the Bedroom A Beautiful Mind Gosford Park Moulin Rouge 2000: Traffic Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Gladiator Chocolat Erin Brockovich 1999: American Beauty The Green Mile The Sixth Sense The Insider Cider House Rules 1998: Shakespeare in Love The Thin Red Line Life is Beautiful Elizabeth Saving Private Ryan 1997: Titanic Good Will Hunting As Good As It Gets The Full Monty L.A. Confidential ____________________________________________________________________________________________ My least favorites (and the only ones I graded less than something in the B-territory): 1. Good Will Hunting (D+) 2. Good Night, and Good Luck (C) 3. Traffic (C+) 4. The Insider (C+) Of the winners, my least favorite is Shakespeare in Love, but it is still decent on its own measures. |

Babbbbbbelllll. I used to hate Lost in Translation a lot more than I do now, recently I saw a particular praised film in my sig that uses a similar nothing-ness technique that LiT does except much much worse and more frustrating, so it continues to improves slightly over time for me. I really like the acting in that movie. Though still, I think it is average C+/C level at best. I don't really have many complaints BP-wise, apart from maybe those 2. Oh, I thought Munich was about C level too. EDIT - Above comment is not referring to Pan's Labryinth. Was talking about 8 1/2, no longer in sig. |

The Thin Red Line, easily. Chocolat, The Queen, and Capote are also contenders, despite being good movies. |

From the ones I've seen (haven't seen Babel, Letters from Iwo Jima, The Full Monty, and I couldn't remember much about Elizabeth), Shakespeare in Love, which is at B-/C+ level. All others are at least a B. |

The Thin Red Line, closely followed by The Full Monty and Babel. |

I have to seriously question the sanity (or maybe just taste) of people saying The Thin Red Line. I'd say Crash (easily) followed by Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. |

I'd go with either Capote or The Queen. They were both good movies, but the only excellence in either was in the performance of the leads. |

Having not seen them all, I'd say these from best (bad) to worst (badder): Ray Seabiscuit Babel Crash Erin Brockovich - this probably isn't fair, since I havent seen it in like, many years and don't remember much other than being bored. |

1 A Beautiful Mind D+ 2 Capote C- 3 The Queen C- 4 Traffic C 5 Brokeback Mountain C+ 6 Babel C+ 7 Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World B- 8 Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers B- 9 The Hours B- 10 The Departed B- Also, I think I gave The Green Mile a grade in the D range the first time I saw it, but I left it out since it's been too long and I can't remember why I hated it that much. |

Haven't seen 5 of them, but of the ones I have seen... Finding Neverland C+/B- (it just was not a GREAT movie at ALL, one of the only great or even good things about it was Winslet). The Two Towers B (I'm as big a LOTR fan as this forum gets but TTT was pretty weak in my opinion) Shakespeare in Love B (I recently rewatched this and was a bit surprised as to why I had always supported it, it really wasn't anything too special) Seabiscuit (I cant even give a grade because I fell asleep) A little better than those would probably be Crash and Babel. I haven't seen: The Green Mile Cider House Rules The Thin Red Line The Full Monty I need to re-watch the following because I don't remember it or havent seen them from start to finish: Gladiator The Insider Saving Private Ryan |
