Were there any categories where you were really displeased with the winner? Mine is Children of Men losing cinematography, which (imo) goes down as one of the worst losses ever in Oscar history. |

What's more heartbreaking is that the clip they used for Children of Men (the car-in-reverse-gear chase in the woods) easily beats the other four combined. They chose the WRONG Mexican to honor. |

Easily the COM cinematography loss. The funny thing is that Pan's was cleaning up and then didnt even win the Best Foreign Film award. |

I'm going to disagree, I loved Children of Men and all, but I was blown away by Pan's Labyrinth so I was fine with that. Despite initially being shocked that Eddie Murphy lost, I was actually happy with Alan Arkin's win. I think my biggest gripe was Pan's Labyrinth not winning Best Foreign film. Absolutely unthinkable. And while The Departed was good, it wasn't best picture worthy. If they were trying to honor Scorcese they should have given him everything. Meh. Oh yeah and Babel for Best Score. |

By FAR, the largest disappointment was Children of Men losing Best Cinematography. It was really the only award where I was right out pissed. Peace, Mike. |

As much as CoM's loss annoyed me, I can't really say that Labyrinth's win was displeasing. Babel, on the other hand, was not only probably my least favorite of the bunch, the composer has now joined this legendary composer as the only other composer to win back-to-back. Truly displeasing. |

For all those who voted Pan's Labyrinth losing Best Foreign Film, how many of you guys have seen The Lives of Others?  Word around the campfire is that it's a masterpiece.
My vote absolutely goes to CoM losing Cinematography. |

Definetily Santaolalla, it shows how pathetic is the AMPAS when it comes to music, they're just absolute insane to give this guitar-nothing another award. Oh and the man was so happy, he thought he got that becaose he deserve this not because they didn't want Babel left without an award. How pathetic is that? |

Pan's losing foreign was stupid. CoM's loss was terrible, but again, I'm kinda glad it didn't ONLY win one tech...if it wasn't gonna win picture, director, editing and etcetera, not winning anything is cool with me (essentially: had it won, you couldn't say stuff like "CoM is too good for the Acadamy" :O ) But yeah, I think the most disPLEASing one was Babel's score beating Pan's, Notes, etc. |

I can live with Pan's Labyrinth winning Cinematography since it is my No. 1 film of 2006 even though CoM should have won here; I can live with The Lives of Others winning since the reviews are very good and my girlfriend loved it even though Pan's is my No. 1 film of 2006; I CANNOT live with Babel winning Score because the other works (Pan's, The Queen, Notes) are simply masterful. |

Pan's may have the best score of this decade and so it really pisses me off that some dude aimlessly plucking a few strings could beat it, especially considering he won last year for doing basically the same thing (though at least Brokeback had some sort of a main theme). And Lubeski losing two years in a row for his photography in two of the most visually stunning films in recent memory is just a tad ridiculous. Pan's was gorgeous though and so I guess it's win kind of made the bitter pill easier to swallow. |

Why the hell did Babel win for Best Score. Gus already won last year, and the scores for Queen and Pan's were far superior. |

Hmm, I don't know. I suppose Jennifer Hudson winning Best Supporting Actress just because I can't stand that ugly cow. She's a singer and that's what she did in the movie. She didn't really have to act. She doesn't deserve to win for being able to sing. She better enjoy her Oscar because she'll never get another one. Even though I loved the scores for Notes on a Scandal and Pan's Labyrinth (two of the best scores of the year by far) I am happy Gustavo won for Babel. I thought it was obvious he would. I haven't seen the movie yet but I wasn't even that interested until I learned he did the score music and it had the same cinematographer as Brokeback Mountain. Considering Brokeback Mountain had the best, most powerful score music I've ever heard and the best cinematography I've ever seen I know these aspects in the film will have to be top-notch. I hope he wins every time he's nominated for Best Score  .
All of the Babel hate here puzzles me. It's like it's the anti-Babel board. I haven't seen a place more negative towards it, and this is actually a board for movie fans. Weird. Yet everyone loves the overrated Little Miss Beergut, which had grating performances by Arkin (though I'm glad he beat a-hole Eddie Murphy) and Breslin. Also, I loved the upsets for Best Animated Film and Best Song. Cars is solid but definitely overrated and Happy Feet was the best animated movie of 2006. It had fantastic animation too. And none of the Best Songs were great, but Melissa Etheridge beating all of the annoying music from Dreamgirls was a friggin' delight. |

Forrest winning for best actor, and it's not close for me. Disregarding the fact that Forrest wasn't even in a lead role, Peter O'Toole should've won this award. It's unfathomable to me that the guy who turned in probably one of the top 5 most memorable performances ever (Lawrence of Arabia) can go unrewarded when he is nominated in such a weak year is really disturbing to me. I don't care if he was sitting in Venus and just staring off into space for 90 minutes, you have to give him the award. AMPAS really disappointed and surprised me there (and yes I realize all of the momentum/previous awards indicated a clear Whitaker victory, I'm talking about surprise in the grand scheme of things). We'll look back and wonder what went on this year that he didn't win, because nobody is going to remember Last King of Scotland, but everyone will remember Peter O'Toole. Babel for score you could see coming, because it had one eerie song which was memorable, and it had to win for something. |
