I share your feeling. Pan's was soooooo much better than our entry. And to see Donnersmarck, one of the biggest jerks in the movie business get the award was just gut-wrenching |

I haven't seen the Foreign winner yet, but I've only heard good things. But as for Pan's Labyrinth -- it already got way more recognition than it deserved -- I'll never forgive it for stealing the cinematography Oscar from Children of Men -- that was just plain wrong! |

Pan definitely got robbed, then again I felt Apocolypto deserved to be nominated too. |

Indeed. Retribution, I say. |

I thought Pan's was an incredible, overwhelming movie. Extraordinary stuff. That said, I haven't seen Lives of Others, but have read the glowing reviews. So...I can't be too upset about this. Yet. |

Having now seen both films, this is one of my favorite choices of the night. The Lives of Others would easily get my vote over Pan's Labyrinth - if it's not the best film of the year, it's certainly right up there. |

I have now seen Pan's Labyrinth which was excellent. I have hard time imagining that Lives is better, yet I'm still happy for Germany ![]() |

Everyone's been quite supportive of the winner in this thread, even the OP who suffers from the popular new disease Pan's Dementia included a second choice... |

you need to see all 5 nominees in theaters to vote for a category, so the people that voted Pan's in for the technical awards probably didn't vote for foreign film. |

I was a little pissed that it didn't win because it was in my top five of last year, and although I haven't seen The Lives of Others yet, I highly doubt it is better than Pan's. Downfall was robbed two years ago, so maybe this was a make up for that? |

I'm seeing The Lives of Others this weekend. Hard to see it topping Pan's, but I'm still excited. |

Pan's Labyrinth is still my favorite, but The Lives of Others is very solid too. A strong A- and should remain in my top 10 throughout this year. |

Just got back from The Lives of Others, and it was a great film. It's not a masterpiece though. Pan's is a masterpiece, but I can completely understand hwo this beat Pan's. The voters (those who have seen all 5 foreign films nominated) are pompous elitists, and most definitely often had trouble taking Pan's seriously. Lives offered a much more conservative option, and a damn good one at that....but like I said, Pan's is the masterpiece, Lives is a great film. Better than anything last year except for Pan's, actually. I'm happy it won, it's bringing an audience to Lives, which Pan's already has. |
