Babel The Departed Dreamgirls Little Miss Sunshine The Queen But, of the other options, what is the most likely to sneak in instead of one of those five? Letters from Iwo Jima? United 93? Children of Men? Something else? |

Well, I don't see anything pulling an upset, but if anything WERE to pull an upset on Oscar nomination day, it would be United 93. It has the important factor, the push by certain critics to recognize it, plus Guild nominations for Screenplay and Editing and critics awards galore. It would just be the next strongest in line, in my opinion. Peace, Mike. |

Funny how Letters went from virtually safe about a month ago to its current status as a potential darkhorse. I agree with Mike, though, and maintain that if there's one surprise Best Pic nom, it'll be United 93. |

It truly is sad how Letters lost so much steam after those first few weeks of buzz. Look at its gross. It's STILL not up to $1 million. I don't see how it could get nominated anymore. I absolutely HATE to admit it but United 93 just MAY be ahead of LEtters now as the 6th spot or surprise nominee. Also... Venus hasn't hit $1m yet either. Actually it hasn't even hit $300k after 4 weeks (granted they haven't expanded yet). It might be the lowest grossing film (when noms are announced) to get a nomination in any of the major 8 categories. |

Lamb's got released way back in Jan if I'm right (someone correct me). Crash was an abboration it was a failsafe against hollywood voting for a homosexual movie..........................(ducks in fear against possible annoyance) |

There has been a lot of debate lately on if academy should move the date back to the last week of March so that those late releases can be seen. However, I'm in the camp that moving the date up to February is the best thing academy has done. I'm sad films like Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth won't get as much recognition as they deserved, but hopefully this year will teach studios a lesson that October/November is the new December now, and they will adjust accordingly. Imagine Children of Men had released in September as originally planned, and seeing good quality films spread out during fall and winter season. That'll be great. |
