The Queen obviously dominates. Some nomination tallies: The Queen - 7 Last King of Scotland - 4 Red Road - 4 The Departed - 3 United 93 - 3 Children of Men - 3 The Prestige - 3 Volver - 3 London to Brighton - 3 Children of Men makes it first big splash! Yay! Heh. A little weird though: Dench and Mirren both got nominated for Best British Actress AND Best Actress. Peace, Mike. |

Didn't they have a Foreign Language Film category last year? Why not this year? Or am I confusing things? By the way, the winners will be announced February 8th. London critics favor 'Queen' Frears pic grabs seven nominations By ADAM DAWTREYLONDON  Hometown favorites "United 93" and "The Queen" are vying with "The Departed," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Volver" for the film of the year award from the London Film Critics Circle. "The Queen" led the nominations with seven, followed by "The Last King of Scotland" with five. But the London critics spread their kudos far and wide. As well as nominating several of this year's Oscar front runners, they also bestowed multiple nods on dark horses such as "The Prestige" (four) and "Children of Men" (three), and on low-budget Brit pics including "Red Road" (four), "London to Brighton" (three) and "Pierrepoint" (three). They even found time for some of last year's Oscar contenders, such as "Capote" and "Good Night, and Good Luck," which qualified because their U.K. release fell in 2006. Judi Dench ("Notes on a Scandal") and Helen Mirren ("The Queen") were both nominated twice, for British actress and actress. The award ceremony takes place on Feb. 8. Peace, Mike. |

They have some strange ways to nominate people. I mean Paul Greengrass was nominated for Best Director but not for British Director? ![]() |
