Post subject: | Early Guilds Discussion Thread |
So, yeah, I was thinking about all of the Guilds awards as a whole, and since we're still a while until the Guilds start popping up, I thought I'd start a little early discussion thread regarding any/all of the Guild Awards. I actually had a few questions to ask to you guys as a whole, but I need to look back at Guilds history of nominations/wins because my memory is so poor, so I ask: Does anyone know a good website that basically has an archive of the nominations and winners of the Guilds per year? I remember having one last awards season that I had to browse the history of all of the Guilds awards, so I'm pretty sure there's one out there. I can't seem to find any links page on Oscarwatch, so I couldn't look there. Any links/help would be much appreciated. Peace, Mike. |

I read from the LA Times that they're campaigning Iwo Jima in original for sure, I don't know if the guilds/academy will follow suit. Borat is also being pushed by the producers as Original, eventhough the character came from the TV show... ![]() |

That came from a play, but the script wasn't changed (Just the actors, since it was a one-woman show), so it was original. With Borat, it's based just on a character, but it wasn't changed at all since the character was played by the same person. I think that makes sense. ![]() |

PGA likes to go for the "bigger" films, so I wouldn't be surprised to see the absence of Letters from Iwo Jima, and the inclusion of something like The Devil Wears Prada or Borat. Letters poor box office in only 5 theatres is not a good step. DGA is where Clint will easily score, as well as Scorcese and Frears. The other two slots are still unsure for me. If Condon doesn't make it, then Inarritu and/or Greengrass and/or Cuaron and such could make it in. I would love to see Cuaron make it. But I tend to think that Condon will make it, since DGA is ultimately the best predictor of Best Picture at the Oscars, and I think Dreamgirls will make it there. But DGA isn't always perfect (but has in recent years been spot on). Peace, Mike. |

We need to remember: SAG will probably do at least one really crazy, stupid thing. Fucking actors. CLORIS LEACHMAN? I'll never fully get over that. |

According to Tapley, SAG puts DiCaprio under supporting for The Departed, so don't be surprised if his name isn't mentioned tomorrow or he gets double-nominated. |

Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor x 2 and Best Ensemble? (Kris Tapley could be wrong... again) I'm not sure if there is anything else that can get 3 acting nominations. I could see Dreamgirls getting Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson, but Beyonce is definitely not getting nominated. Jamie Foxx? Plus it would have to get Ensemble, too, which isn't for sure. Peace, Mike. |

Little Miss Sunshine could conceivably get 3: 2 supporting actors and 1 supporting actress. If it does, then it will mean the support among acting branch is extremely strong, and BP will be a no-brainer. Getting 2 and the ensemble will keep it in contention. |

Yeah, I was thinking LMS might be able to do it too if it can get all the supporting nods. I think LMS has Ensemble in the bag, easily. Peace, Mike. |

And oh, if Babel leads the SAGs tomorrow, I'm making a "Can Babel win?" thread... because it's kind of gaining some serious momentum right now. |

That would be terrible for Leo. Oscar voters will probably be confused and split his votes between leading and supporting. Furthermore if they put him in under supporting it hurts all the others in the cast as well. |
