As far as I can tell, there's no thread here specifically for which films that you WANT to see nominated at the Oscars this year. Lots of prediction threads, but no specific "what should be nominated" thread. If there is, please direct me to it and close this thread.

Anyway, I'm looking to find out which movies, actors, actresses, etc. that people want to see nominated this year at the Oscars. Try to keep it realistic, though. I doubt I'll see SAW III, Jackass Number Two, or Snakes on a Plane nominated, even though they're three of my favorites this year.

At this point, I already have three of the five Best Picture spots decided:

-Children of Men
-The Departed
-Little Miss Sunshine

If those three got nominated, I would be fine with whatever else was nominated. "Children" and "Sunshine" are my two favorite movies of the year (and two of my all-time favorites), while "Departed" was a great movie (A- from me) that definitely deserves a nod.

I won't list anymore until I see more of the "Oscar-calibre" movies, but the only other major possibility that I've seen would be "United 93".

superman to beat pirates for best special effects cause it is MUCH harder to make a flying man look real then it is to make a octopus face.

my proof-you see a man every day, hence why youd tell instantly if his flyign was real or fake. but have you ever sene a human octopus? hell no.

I really missed out on ALOT of movies this year because of schoolwork during most of the year and laziness in the summer (but what good movies are out in summer? ;) )

I'm planning on seeing 6 movies between my last final (Wed) and the end of next weekend

That being said... I do have my preliminary "best of the year" list forming...

The Departed
The Queen
Volver
Little Miss Sunshine
United 93

I think those are the 5 best pictures of the year so far. Would I like to see them all nominated? Everything except United93

My very personal favorites of the year so far...

Little Miss Sunshine
Devil Wears Prada
Volver

there are more but these are a cut above the rest.

Sadfully, no movie this year will probably even crack my top 30 all time favorites. Last year I really fell in love with Family Stone (#10 all time favorite now). Brokeback woulda been the next closest one but outside top 30.

2004 is and probably will always be my favorite year for movies particuarly because it gave me my top 2 favorite films of all time (Before Sunset and Kill Bill) which I don't see changing ANYTIME in the foreseeable future

Wow, I thought I was the only one who really loved Family Stone. Although, it's not in my top 10 of all time, it's definitely up there.

I'm a sucker for family sap like that. But that dinner scene has got to be one of the most tense scenes I have ever seen on screen.

I hope World Trade Center, Stranger Than Fiction, Marie Antoinette, Children of Men, and Thank You For Smoking to be nominated in as many categories (since they won't be getting into Best Picture).

Among movies I'm rooting against, I wouldn't mind if both The Departed and The Queen are boh snubbed in the major categories. And I haven't seen Volver but based on previous Almodovar movies I've suffered through I hope its snubbed as well.

I haven't really seen enough this year to root for anything else, but I'm still going full force for United 93.

I also havnt seen enough but would love to have seen The Departed, The Prestige, V for Vendetta and Children of Men make it. Realistically only one is guranteed a spot while the other has a chance.

My three A's of the year so far: Departed, United 93, Little Miss Sunshine

I'm a little concerned I only have 3 A films and it's almost halfway through December, I usually have more than that.

I also really liked Family Stone. *shrug*

As of now I'm really hoping that Marie Antoinette gets nominated for the non major awards since it pretty much has no chance in the other categories and... that Kate Winslet gets nominated for Little Children.

Oh, The Family Stone...

Silly little movie. :)

I'll forgive you guys, though. And I'll admit that that final scene with the picture made me really sad. :(

My dreamlist

Children of Men
The Descent
Little Miss Sunshine
Thank you for Smoking

If the academy had any respect for horror The Descent would get some love but I know that won't happen.

Family Stone was in my top 3 of last year by the way.

Another Family Stone fan here

This year, I'm rooting for Volver and Marie Antoinette (which has zero shot in the top 8). I suspect I'm going to love Little Children, Babel and Half Nelson too.

So far I haven't decided who I want to be nominated for best picture, but I know who I don't want to, and that is VOLVER.

Half Nelson (Probably my #1 or #2 for the year), The Departed, United 93, and although it's not going to happen, I'd love to see The Devil Wears Prada in there.

I too would get a kick out of Devil Wears Prada getting a nomination, but I'm perfectly content with a nomination for Meryl Streep.

Count me in for The Family Stone club.

It's pretty obvious I want Children of Men to pretty much clean house.

Holy mackeral. This has turned into the Family Stone Fanclub. I believe it was in my top five of last year, and probably in my top 40 of all time.

Anyway, I would just really love to see Children of Men and Little Miss Sunshine be nominated for Best Picture. The Departed is something that would make me happy, but it's Children and Sunshine that I'm really, really rooting for.

I really want United 93 to be up for Best Picture and Best Director. Same for The Departed (but that's a lock anyway).

I would love to see Monster House going up for Best Animated Picture.
