Damon for Departed and good shepard

or Leo for departed and blood diamond

Although This would never happen, but if it ever did, who would have a better shot?

Uhh, probably Damon because he could get in for Supporting for The Departed (weirder things have happened) and Lead for The Good Shepherd whereas DiCaprio is obviously lead in both of his films.

Cate Blanchett has the best shot, with lead in The Good German (where Clooney already started campaigning) and supporting in Babel and Notes on a Scandal.

If it actually came down for picking a sole lead in The Departed, it would be Damon. His story is more developed from beginning to end and he undoubtedly has more screen time than any other actor in the film. I just can't see him ever getting nominated for Supporting Actor.

I also agree with Cate Blanchet but seeing as she just won 2 years ago, I don't think they'd be too pumped to hnd out another couple of nods.

I'd say Kate Winslet had a shot (again) but then All the King's Men went to hell, so ;)

Meryl Streep also has a chance, but doesn't look like A Prairie Home Companion will be remembered much at all.

I'd say Damon is equally the lead in The Departed. He isnt supporting at all. Both Damon and DiCaprio will get lead noms. Nicholson should be considered for supporting. I wouldnt be surprised to see Whalberg or Baldwin or Famiga get a supporting nod either.

Uhh, yeah, he is lead, but Jamie Foxx was lead in Collateral as well...

However strong his performance, Matt Damon is screwed when it comes to The Departed. WB will push Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor and Jack Nicholson for Best Supporting Actor and he'll be shoved to the side.

He does, IMO, have a great shot at being nominated for The Good Shepherd, though.

Damon could have a shot at a second Departed supporting nom, this is exactly the kind of movie that would pack on nominations like that... Both Godfathers got 3 in the category.

Tell that to Ethan Hawke!
