Post subject: | Box Office Talk vrs. Awards Talk? |
Basically, there are two specialties at the site, box office, which is the main thing here, and Awards talk, something that is growing each year. There are some members here who are only into box office and never venture into here, like Zingaling. There are some members who don't really take box office as anything serious, but are very much into awards season, like loyal, and now me, too, since I don't have time for box office much these days, and there are people like MovieDude, Libs, Dr. Lecter, Shack, and xiayun, who take much pleasure in discussing both. I prefer Awards discussion to box office discussions, obviously. I find the discussions to have a higher quality that isn't so repetitive like box office talk can be. I find the whole process fascinating. The tracking is more enjoyable. What do you like best? |

I came to BOM because I was obsessing over box office (summer b.o in particular) and needed an outlet. I enjoy talking about both but I'm nutso over the award season. I too find the history of awards more interesting as a whole. Plus with shit movies making far too much money at the box office, I'm generally happier about the outcome of awards. |

I'm obsessed with awards. This is about the only forum I really post in. |

I would probably be more interested in awards talk if the films were of higher quality these days but they just aren't. To me this is the weakest decade for this kind of movie in my lifetime. |

I came to BOM mainly in search of box office tracking but quickly became obsessed with Awards. Then we migrated to WOKJ and I left box office almost completely. All I post here now is mostly TV and Awards. |

I love reading this forum. Don't post as much because someone is usually already doing a good job saying what I think... |

But shitter movies or rather, movies composed of shit, tend to earn $$$ at a higher frequency than earn awards. |

It's always box office first to both me, and the REAL world. ![]() If Hollywood didn't have any money coming in, they wouldn't be able to host an Oscars. Even though there are small films always winning, the campaigns often cost alot of money. Thus, box office keeps the awards side going (as there is money to invest in quality), but unfortunately, quality doesn't always equal money in the industry. Thus, box office rules... ![]() |

Box-Office talk, that's what I came here for (to BOM actually, that is). Now I mostly stay because I like talking to the people here, but between awards and b/o - it's box-office. |

Box office. Cause most of the time, movies I don't care about are nominated for big awards. I get more excited about awards if a movie I actually like has a good chance, though. |

Both. Just that one usually gets preference over the other depending on the time of year. Now offcourse - its awards season so prefer awards talk. When it comes to BO I prefer the Macro level talk about films in general, patterns and release schedules and not so much into obsessing over one film and its weekend take. This awards season immore interested in because it lookslike some good films are coming soon and cant wait to see alot of them - unlike late last year - when Geisha, Jarhead and Munich were the only ones i really wanted to see. |
