I can't imagine Flags of Our Fathers being the movie to beat. After Million Dollar Baby, the Academy will be looking to share the wealth. Plus, with that very young cast, the movie may not be as solid as is expected. The frontrunner right now should be Dreamgirls...though I can't imagine Beyonce ever being good in any movie she ever does. |

Don't forget The Good German which has a better shot than The Good Shephard does, and also Notes on a Scandal which has Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett. Scandal likely won't be my kind of film but with those two in it, I bet the Academy at least gives it a chance. |

neo_wolf wrote: Eddie Murphy for best supporting actor! Yeah, it could really happen. I'd also add: Brian Cox - Running With Scissors Jack Nicholson - The Departed Brad Pitt - Babel ( Could he be in a similar situation as Clooney in Syriana?) Supporting races are soooo hard to predict. |

I have a really good feeling about brainy sci-fi this year. I'm calling it right now: Either Children of Men or The Fountain will get a BP nomination. Maybe I'm gonna make a fool of myself but I'm bumping this for sure. Also, Trade. Just look at the trailer, it's by LGF and looks like Crash about the border. I don't see it being as massively successful as Crash, but it's being very overlooked. |

That movie with Adam Sandler... the 911 one... might be up for an actor nod... Same goes for that Will Smith movie.. "The Pursuit of Happyiness" |

This guy from David Polands website posted th is in the talkback and though it's almost absolutely meaningless, it's got me really happy about Prestige and Bale. Quote: I saw the Prestige two weeks ago and LOVED it. But I think it might be a little too cold for the academy. Bale might get a nomination for Best Actor -- he's great in it. I know a few folks who have seen All the Kings Men and everyone has been disappointed. Loved the script to the Blood Diamond. Then again, I loved the script to the Black Dahlia as well and supposedly it turned out pretty awful. Very curious about Zodiac. Probably number one on my want to see list. |

Damn, forget what I said about Trade: It's been moved to April 2007. I guess Lionsgate is going to have Bug be their big Oscar contender, unless I'm forgetting something else... |

Wouldn't surprise me about Prestige... all Nolan's films strike me as a bit cold (even the ones I like). I dunno. Still, it's only one review. |

I guess Lucky You is in the race now, since it moved itself from into Oscar season. Bana and Barrymore are due for a nom, Duvall kicks ass, Hanson is a big director... |

Would be cool to see Duvall get a nod for best supporting. Barrymore isnt due jack shit though. |

empire says christian bale is so good in harsh times, he forces every actor fo the screen. and he is supposably so magnificent in in "rescue dawn" that its his breakout movie (what!?). top that of with a supposably amazing preformance in the prestige, and we have what will be another year of overlooked bale performances. |

I think Flags of Our Fathers, and maybe even The Prestige could get a nod. I also think Will Smith will get a nod for his performance in pursuit of happyness. |

I think Kate Winslet for Little Children has to be the frontrunner for Best Actress. She's so due now, and the whole academy knows that. There doesn't seem to be a Reese Witherspoon super pre-determined nominee this year either, so it could be a walk. |

Best Actress should be between Winslet and Bening (Running with the Scissors). Bening can also be considered due after three nominations, but her cold act back in 2004 could've alienated some folks. |

Andaroo mentioned to me that Running with Scissors could be this year's The Family Stone. I coouldn't agree more. Big cast ensemble, a trailer that makes it look like a quirky comedy (despite the fact that the book it is based on is pretty harrowing anmd deals with themes like pedophilia). |

I think Running with Scissors is way too quirky to be the next Family Stone. Maybe the next Royal Tenenbaums or something. I still think Dreamgirls is the movie to beat at the moment. Based on early buzz, Eddie Murphy could be taking home his first Oscar, as well. |
