 Charlie Wilson's War
Nichols.
Hanks, Roberts, Hoffman.
Relevant drama plot, perfect for awards baiting.
At this point, I'd put the movie right up there with Flags and Dreamgirls, as one of the "early biggies" to watch coming into award season. I predict it'll lose unfortunatley in the end, but it's worth noting for now as one to look at indeed .

08 seemed unreasonable to me as well, considering it should have a locked print by spring 07. But IMDB lists it as an 08 release, so grain of salt.

Bump
So I'd say this is the frontrunner for next year.
There's a slim slim chance that this pulls The ULTIMATE SWEEP: Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, and Screenplay.
Now that would be kick ass, longshot but it has at least contention in all the categories.

All 3 main actors are winner and hasn't Nichols won for something in the past?
It may sweep with nominations but I see barely any wins.

Like every other film it depends on how good it actually is. Way too early to tell but on paper it looks good.
