Who does the Academy want to give an award to this year? For example, we all know they would like to give one to Scorcese if Aviator is as good and worthy as it appears to be.

Who else? Cate Blanchett? Possibly.

There's also Anjelica Huston an old Academy favorite who is making a mini-comeback in a supporting role in Life Aquatic. It wouldn't surprise me if she got a Best Sup Actress nom just from sentimentality.

I think they may want to give Annette Bening an Oscar. I'm sure Warren Beatty wants them to.

Also, Morgan Freeman is past due. He could get a career Oscar for Million Dollar Baby.

Scorceses, Director
Annette Benning, Actress
Blanchet, Supp.Actress
Freeman, Supp.Actor

those are the main categories they would probably want to award an actress in and the ones they would want.

Sorry Lecter, I am not sure where we had the discussions where you said everyone is picking Benning.

First story I looked at disagreed.

Golden Globes Leave Oscar Race Fuzzy

Mon Jan 17, 2:51 PM ET Movies - AP

By DAVID GERMAIN, AP Movie Writer

LOS ANGELES - This year, the Golden Globes have left the road to the Oscars (news - web sites) a fuzzy one. Potential Oscar front-runners Hilary Swank of the boxing saga "Million Dollar Baby" and Jamie Foxx (news) of the Ray Charles film biography "Ray" came away with lead-acting prizes at Sunday's Globes.

This is why the word "potential" is in there.

Whatever dude, it is pretty clear that some are picking her.

= Potential Oscar front-runners

Isn't everyone a potential front-runner? Even Halle Berry for Catwoman? I mean this is a so vague choice of words...

Some are picking her, but it's not "some" who'll award her, but the majority.

Also look for what Levy has said.

I don't think so because the 2 actors that they list in the first paragraph are Swank and Foxx. Now that is only this reporters opinion but this is in regard to my discussion yesterday that Swank has a chance to win. Some people here were saying no way.

I do believe Swank now has a much better chance of getting the win than Benning, who took forever to get on the stage and gave one of the worst speeches last night at the Globe. Hilary was much more loveable. She should take SAG since Benning won it for American Beauty, and I just think her role in Million Dollar Baby is simply too strong to be surpassed by an actress from a much smaller film. It'd been a different story if Being Julia had been another American Beauty and poised to win multiple awards. That's why Morgan Freeman and Cate Blanchett have a much better chance as the overdue actor/actress to get awarded. Their films are great.
