I know there's a thread in Cinemania and Dr. Lecter already put a link in it (merge this if you guys want), but I guess a separate thread here in the Award Forum is needed to raise awareness as this *might* influence the next Oscar race:

I wonder how Loach's film will play out. Will it get some attention then be ignored or will it finally get mainstream recognition? Ken Loach had been churning out issue-films that pretty much nobody here in the U.S. has seen (I thought Sweet Sixteen was terrific) but is almost always universally praised.

Great showing for Volver. Bodes well for Cruz and Almodovar. Same with Babel.

Sweet Sixteen was bloody awesome, its a shame it didn't get much of an audience here.

Wind that Shakes the Barley may be one of those UK-centric phenoms that can grab a Best Picture nomination if some studio comes along and really cares about it enough.

Babel is shaping up to be a big deal. I expect Volver to play out similarly to other Almodóvar films of late.

Yup on all points.

I see three GREAT films coming out this year... much more promising than last, no?

Volver.

I actually don't think Wind that Shakes the Barley will go anywhere...in spite of its win reviews actually range from mediocre to pretty negative.

But Volver and Babel :-D
