Okay, the last round did not go well, but I hope this does not signalize a lack of interest in the concept itself, but rather the fact that the film is hard to get ( I wasn't able to get my hands on it on time, but I promise, once I'm able to, I will comment).

Both threads, on Dangerous Liaisons and on The Apartment will remain open, so if you want to comment on them later on, you are always welcome.

I hope this round we can get more ettention and participation because if the interest in this keeps decreasing, I'm afraid we'll have to simply cancel this and it'd be a pity. I'm just usually a bit let down that so many projects suggested around here garner so much interest to begin with, but once it gets going, less than half of the inital "participants" back out.

Well, my rant's over and I hope we can freshly restart this thing with more participation than ever before (pretty please!)

This time around, we'll do it like the first time (next time I'll try something different again):

The first five people to post here suggest a movie each. The only condition is that it was nominated for Best Picture. Hopefully a film that was not seen by most here, yet is not very hard to get hold of. Then I set up a poll and we vote. Just so simple :)

Well, you could suggest a movie now that you think you might be able to find ;)

Alright, I guess I'll nominate Kramer vs Kramer then. I'm not sure if too many people have seen it or not though, if they have I'll switch.

We're only picking nominees that never won right? Kramer vs. Kramer won Best Picture. ;)

It doesn't matter :) Last round we were exclusively picking those that won. This time around, it just doesn't matters. Both work.

One of the best ever. I would nominate it too, but its tricky. It hasn't been pulled to DVD yet, so unless everyone is willing to schlep and has access to VHS, it could be hard to get a good turnout. You can't get it on netflix, etc. I was praying EVERY SINGLE PERSON reserved it on netflix just as a little hypothesis about what would happen. So please, if you see this meesage, put it on reserve...just for fun...for me.

Chris, see the vhs if you can at least. Tell me what you think. Its fabulous.

I'll put myself out on a limb and say a good one to kick start this is good 'ol Robbie Redford. I'll suggest Quiz Show. Even people who don't like it, will find it strong for its direction, or its probing themes. Its pretty fast paced and has a bit of suspense to the drama, too.

Either that, or I'll dig further back into the classics and suggest The Conversation or Anatomy of a Murder.

Cheers.

Ah, I didn't realize it isn't on DVD. It might be hard to fine then.

Hmmm, I am not sure if it's good to have a pick that's not out on DVD yet...

Dolce, so which one...Anatomy of a Murder or The Conversation? Only can suggest one. :D

Actually, I'll go with my first suggestion, Quiz Show. Its really good, more recent, a movie I covered on the main site, and something I think people would enjoy watching. The other ones are actually more famous, and many people here might have already seen them. Especially The Conversation. But few people have actually seen Quiz Show for some reason. I checked and its available in DVD on netflix, etc. So I'm going to suggest that one. Its excellent.

I also disagree with your worries about large turnout. If we even have four or five people that are willing to do this regularly, it'll catch on eventually. trust me. There are so many good movies out there, and this is an excellent way to draw attention to them. Plus, we have Chris and Christian, so really, what more could one want in life? :-)

To get people warmed up, heh:

Quote:
Image Quiz Show (1995): "Fifty million people watched, but no one saw a thing." Robert Redford probes television program consumption through the lens of a perceived real-time jeopardy-esque show. In a haunting premonition of today's reality television craze, beautiful refined contestant Charles Van Doren (Ralph Fiennes) beats out perpetual trivia champion Herbie Stempel (John Turturro). Stempel appeals to anyone who will take the time to listen to his frenetic case of card stacking in Doren’s favor. Dick Goodwin (Rob Murrow) goes snooping around the consciences of the two respective rising and falling contestants. The acting is subtle and superb and rivals Redford's pacing, Quiz Show's 50's film aesthetic, and the poignancy of celebrity mass-consumption and the American dream.

Quiz Show, it will be then. Now we have our five candidates, so the voting can start.

I agree, as long as we have regulars, it's okay, but I will still kick others' butts PM-style!

Fond memories. Ah, good times.

I voted. I just realized this is, like, Daniel Day Lewis selection-a-thon. Honestly, I must have been the only one that wasn't that thrilled with In the Name of the Father. It was interesting and well done, but nothing I would watch twice. :-(

Everyone vote for Quiz Show. Trust me?

My Left Foot

Premise: Christy Brown is a spastic quadriplegic born to a large, poor Irish family. His mother, Mrs Brown, recognizes the intelligence and humanity in the lad everyone else regards as a vegetable. Thrilling, funny, charming and electrifying all at once.

Ted is now faced with the tasks of housekeeping and taking care of himself and their young son Billy. When he has learned to adjust his life to these new responsibilities, Joanna resurfaces and wants Billy back. Ted however refuses to give him up, so they go to court to fight for the custody of their son.

Okay!

My pic obviously is for The Right Stuff.

(I won't be disappointed if Quiz Show had won. I haven't seen it in a while and but it's very well-crafted.
