Post subject:  Evan Rachel Wood will get a nomination for Down in the...
Valley.

Because Premiere magazine like her.

The movie belongs to Wood, who creates a unique portrait of a girl hesitating at the threshold of womanhood; she's smarter, more attuned, and more spiritually ambitious than those around her, but also too decent and loyal to break from the world she knows-and too unformed to have a grasp of what she wants outside of that world. It's fantastic work.

Note: I don't actually think she will be nominated for anything this year, and this thread is more of an excuse to start anything on Evan Rachel Wood. Someday, though.

Yeah, I don't see Down in the Valley gaining any steam.

A Norton/Wood nomination package would rock though.

She has about as much of a chance to get a nomination as Ellen Page does for Hard Candy, which, unfortunately, is pretty much nil.

She might have some sort of a shot with Running With Scissors coming out also this year... but I'm afraid that'll do the same to her as The Upside of Anger did - praised, but not enough for the nom... :|

The reviews are actually pretty good for the most part...and I notice that those critics who do like it seem to be pretty passionate about it. What I think will prevent it from a nomination is this is not the type of film that gets anything, good or not.

I saw a pic of this and she looks really mature (physically, cuz her acting was always quite mature).

It's one of 3 Edward Norton movies this year and Wood being in it definitely places it high on my charts. I also don't think she'll get nominated but it could start building steam for her. If her name is brought up during the Oscar race, it will do wonders for her prospects in the following years. She was already talked about for Thirteen.

Evan Rachel Wood is the finest actress to come along since...well, probably Meryl Streep. And given enough time, I fully expect people might even consider her better than Streep. She has the kind of talent that Kevin Spacey has. That is to say its god-like.

She gave the best performance of any actor or actress that I saw last year, in Pretty Persuasion. Given her choices in movies, it's apparent that she is more interested in making great movies, than in becoming a star. This should bold very well for her career.

It's only a matter of time before the rest of the world takes notice.

I don't expect her to get an Oscar nomination this year. In fact I think it will take several years before she finally gets nominated. I imagine her rode the Oscars will be much like that of Peter Sarsgaard. An actor who should already have a half dozen nominations. The academy will only be able to ignore these actors for so long. I imagine they will finally get their Oscar the way Philip Seymour Hoffman got his. He made a film that the academy simple couldn't ignore.
