Post subject:  If you picked the Nominees and Winners for 2000

As I promised, I continue my monthly series of threads for your own winners/nominees picks in recent years. Here is a link to the thread for 1999. I am happy about as many replies as I can get because it's always interesting to take a look at the people's favorites.

We've come to the year 2000 now, not such a great year, in my personal opinion, but I'm sure many of you will think otherwise. Post away your picks!

Here's a comprehensive list of 2000 releases

Here's what I'd pick... (winner in italics/bold)

Ellen Burstyn deserved to win Best Actress that year.

I need to point out that out of the acclaimed films that year, I still have to see Almost Famous and Requiem for a Dream.

Author:  andaroo1 [ Thu Jan 26, 2006 9:57 pm ]
Post subject:

Best Picture
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
In the Mood for Love
Gladiator
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Traffic

etc.

Requiem is kind of shit and kind of good, in equal parts.

Post subject:

Best Picture
Almost Famous
Erin Brockovich
Gladiator
Requiem for a Dream
Traffic

I would really love to know how flipping Almost Famous, still probably my favorite movie of the decade thus far, was passed over for a nomination for Chocolat DESPITE managing to win Screenplay and getting two supporting nods. I hate(d) Miramax.

Best Picture (I either haven't seen enough from the year, or this year was really garbage - these 5 (ok, 7) are pretty much the only 5 (ok, 7) on that list at the-numbers that I'd call really great)

Wonder Boys;
Yi Yi;
George Washington;
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon;
In the Mood for Love

(runner ups: Time Code, Traffic)

Winner...

In the Mood for Love
or maybe George Washington (or maybe Yi yi.)

If she was only nominated, maybe...

Or hell, she'll still wear a swan.

Huge oversight by the Oscars.

I, too, honestly think it's one of the biggest snubs of all-time.

Was there some particular reason why she got so little attention?

Looks like you were not much of a fan of that year's Oscars then, hehe.

Which one would you like to win of these?

I could have listed Gladiator, Traffic and Crouching Tiger, all great films. But I decided to pick films that I really loved. :biggrin:

I'd give BP to Almost Famous.
