Given the history of NSFC's history, not that weird. They awarded Yi Yi in 2000 for best picture. I still think 2046 is in contention for cinematography, and Ziyi should benefit from her supporting turn to help get a nom for Memoirs. |

Hmmm, Phoenix is not even in the Top 3 for actors. And I remember the times when many considered him an absolute frontrunner, heh. Anyway, what's up with the Head-On love? That's insane. |

Why is 2046 lower in the foreign film category, yet higher on the Best Pic one? ![]() |

Raffiki wrote: Why is 2046 lower in the foreign film category, yet higher on the Best Pic one? ![]() Cuz American movies, for the most part, sucked this year? j/k I actually didn't like 2046 all that much, and think there were a handful of American ones (and international ones) that were much better than it. |

Raffiki is saying the opposite "If 2046 was strong enough to be Best Picture, why didn't it win their Foreign award" |

um. isn't 2046 2nd (and only three votes behind 1st) in foreign, and 3rd in Best Pic? Or did I misunderstand the Q? |

lol, of course. hm. interesting. unless there's some rules/release date thing (didnt 2046 hit filmfests in 2004...maybe it was only eligible for foreign film last year, but open for everything this year?)... I dunno. weird though. Head-On is coming up quickly on the flix...wonder if its really that good... |

Head-on was eliminated in one of the early voting rounds for Best Picture. When you have more choices, that could happen. |

Details on how the voting process went: http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_goldderby/2006/01/national_societ.html. 57 memebers spent five and half hours? Gee, what a waste of time. |
