Variety has it. The Directors Guild of America, favoring moderate-scale dramas for its best director nominations, has selected Bennett Miller for "Capote," Ang Lee for "Brokeback Mountain," George Clooney for "Good Night, and Good Luck," Steven Spielberg for "Munich" and Paul Haggis for "Crash." -Oscarwatch forums |

So it's Walk the Line and Munich fighting for the last spot. Capote and Crash are in: PGA, DGA, SAG Ensemble, WGA. |

I might as well just watch the Independent Spirit Awards. John Waters is funnier anyway. Golden Globes are only going to be 3/5 this year. |

Walk the Line suddenly looks very weak. People love Reese' performance and like Phoenix's, but after that, nothing. I think Munich will take it. |

I'm still not convinced Capote will get in, though its chances have risen ten fold. Peter Jackson and King Kong are out and done with. Munich is still pretty much locked for a nod. BP: Brokeback, Crash, Good Night, Munich, Walk the Line |

Somehow the campaign for films like Match Point (despite a brief recovery at the Globes) just never took off. This is such a weird year. It's very hard to phantom Capote miss at this point after getting support from all 4 big guilds. It also has 2 acting noms at SAG besides the ensemble. Its strength is everywhere except for the tech branches, which we don't know yet. |

So Crash is basically a lock, and Capote is looking very strong though I wouldn't be surprised if it's edged out by both Munich and Walk the Line. They need something widely popular in the mix, so I still say Walk the Line will make it by the skin of its teeth. A History of Violence is practically dead now, eh? |

Any films outside the top 6 (BBM, GNAGL, Crash, Capote, Munich, and WTL) have to be considered dead at this point. |

It's so spread out with all of the major awards. It's such a crazy year. GG Drama - Brokeback Mountain - The Constant Gardener - Good Night and Good Luck - A History of Violence - Match Point GG Director - Match Point - Good Night and Good Luck - King Kong - Brokeback Mountain - The Constant Gardener - Munich PGA - Brokeback Mountain - Capote - Crash - Good Night and Good Luck - Walk the Line DGA - Brokeback Mountain - Capote - Crash - Good Night and Good Luck - Munich Not to mention there are all the midrange awards (BFCA, LAFCA, NBR, etc) that are also acknowledging a large range of films. I wouldn't be surprised to see ANYTHING at the Oscars, nor would I be surprised if a lot of precursor stuff is just thrown out the window, and the Oscars go alone. PEACE, Mike. |

I wouldn't group GG and the midrange awards with guilds. The guilds consist of people who actually vote for Oscar, and so far the big four voting blocks (writers, directors, producers, and actors) have shown unanimous support on four films: BBM, GNAGL, Crash, and Capote. Crash and Capote might miss at the end, but it's not going to be by a big margin at all and requires tech branches to be solidly behind one film. |

Thank god Spielberg got in. I mean, Jesus, Capote? Is this film really worthy of all these accolades? I know the DGA is a great predictor, but I just don't see it getting a nom for best picture. Walk the Line isn't on very steady legs either so there seems to be two open spots with a handful of films competing for them (3 filled spots are of course GNAGL, Brokeback and Crash). |

I would like to remind people of Being John Malkovich and Almost Famous who got just as much (if not more) noms everywhere (and they also socred better at the Globes) and were shut out.
