Hustle & Flow

Good for Hustle and Flow (interestingly, no Terrence Howard).

Last hope for Munich is the DGA. At like, 10 AM PST, hehe. A lot of love for North Country (ick).

The only suprising thing is Ziyi Zhang's nomination.

Post subject:

Ok off the top of my head.

Hustle & Flow got ensemble (didn't see that coming) but no Terrence Howard in Actor? And in his place Russell Crowe?

Judi Dench & Ziyi Zhang for Actress over Keira Knightley?

No love for History of Violence at all.

Don Cheadle popping up in Supporting Actor with Dillon.

Great for Brokeback, Capote, Crash. Not good for Munich, Match Point, or AHOV.

I'm surprised they hated the charming, well-acted, utterly wonderful PRIDE & PREJUDICE, and Keira Knightley's performance. Wait, no I'm not. God, actors stink.

Two CRASH actors. Others predicted it, buit I remained optimistic. Ugh.

Not only are these awards terrible, but they're boring. None of the cool surprises SAG usually brings (except for HUSTLE & FLOW, which doesn't really count because it's a fairly meaningless nomination.)

And yes, Christian, those two ghastly NORTH COUNTRY nominations. Remember actress: de-glam!

Zhang Ziyi!!! :clap2: :clap2: :towel:

Keira: her peers may still not take her role seriously

Munich: getting ever closer to be done

Capote: getting stronger every day

Naomi Watts: dead

Gong Li, Keaton: dead

Scarlett: hurting

Amy Adams: locked and loaded

Keener: looking good

Maria: probably had the lead/supporting split

Howard/Crowe: still fighting for the last spot, but Hustle & Flow getting Best Ensemble is more significant and gives Howard an upper hand actually, IMO

I don't think this hurt Munich. I never thought it had a chance for anything at SAG, really. It's all about the DGA now.

It appears I was right all along in thinking she was never alive.
xiayun wrote:

Hmm....Keaton could still grab an Oscar nod, she's a fave, although you won't find me predicting it.

Scarlett and her movie are on life support right now, and they need the DGA to pull a miracle out of their ass.

xiayun wrote:

And on top of that you have AHOV, a movie I knew those bastard actors wouldn't respond to. I don't think this is a big deal for her.

Ensemble is still important. Maybe Munich can get in with a DGA nom alone, but it's in a weaker position with each passing guild.

I don't see any evidence that Keaton has any support. No GG, no pre-cursor.

Scarlett needs to win GG to have any chance of swing some votes her way.

Best Actor is crowded, very crowded.

Doesn't Charlize Theron already have a de-glam Oscr?

I'm still rooting for Heath.

I'll predict Crash for the win.

Philip deserves the win but Heath will take it for the upset.
Same thing will happen at the Acdemy Awards. :disgust:

I think Heath will win the Globe, but Philip will get SAG and Oscar. In any case, It should be close.

Weird noms once again.

Capote is gaining strength big time. Imagine if it gets a DGA nom....

The biggest surprise is indeed Zhang Ziyi's nom here. With the category being relatively weak, she could get an Oscar nom as well.

North Country is still alive?!

Hustle & Flow getting Best Ensemble is a nice upset.

Walk the Line is snubbed for Best Ensemble, hmmm.

Also, I knew Russell Crowe would get a nom here. SAG likes him.

My predictions:

Best Actor:

Philip Seymour Hoffman

Best Actress:

Felicity Huffman

Best Supporting Actor:

Paul Giamatti

Best Supporting Actress:

Michelle Williams

Best Ensemble:

Crash

No Bana, no Allen, no Keira, no Johansson, no Keaton..

I'm still keeping my December predictions though.. I still think these five actors won't get in:

- Russell Crowe
- Zhang Ziyi
- Charlize Theron
- Don Cheadle
- Frances McDormand

And Amy Adams still reminds me of Steve Buscemi.. and Ghost World had even more raves than Junebug...

SAG Overseer Bob Bobton: *dials*
Terrance Howard: Hello?
BB: Terrance, Hi! Bob Bobton here with the SAG.
TH: Oh yeah! How are you doing?
BB: Good, say, you know we are going to nominated your films tomorrow along with Good Night, Capote, and Brokeback Mountain, so it would be great if you could do some press releases... come down, say hi to E! and everything.
TH: Okay, yeah great. Sounds like fun, anything to support my film, I am really proud of...
BB: But there is one thing.
TH: Oh?
BB: Despite the fact that you have had the best year of nearly any actor and are in two of the SAG Ensemble films, we can't really nominate you for the Acting awards.
TH: ...oh, Okay well it's not really about awards, it's about having pride in my...
BB: Well frankly, you got enough votes, but we don't need another Jamie Foxx this year.
TH: Wait, what are you trying to say?
BB: Speak clearly son, I can't understand your street talk! Anyway, we need Russell Crowe. We need the publicity, he's bound to throw a phone at someone.
TH: ...
BB: I mean, seriously, we are going to need the ratings. Besides, we don't need any more racial issues. We are fair minded... hey we nominated Crash!
TH: *click*
BB: Hello?

Hahahahahahah

How true!

It's pathetic that they give H&F an Ensemble nom, but fail to give a nom to any actor or actress in that movie. And they nominate Ceadle and Dillon from Crash, but not Howard, heh.

ok.. here are SAG's matches over the last three years:

2005:

Actor: 4/5 (Giamatti snubbed; Clint Eastwood got in with no precursor support)
Actress: 5/5
Sup.Actor: 4/5 (Natalie Portman instead of Cloris Leachman)
Sup. Actress: 3/5 (Clive Owen and Alan Alda instead of James Garner and Freddy Highmore)

They strangely snubbed Closer last year, so Scarlett may still have a shot...

2004:

Actor: 4/5 (Peter Dinklage)
Actress: 3/5 (Evan Rachel Wood, Patricia Clarkson for Station Agent - double nominee that year)
Sup Actor: 4/5 (Chris Cooper)
Sup Actress: 3/5 (Maria Bello... and Keisha ended up being nominated for lead)

2003:

Actor: 4/5 (Richard Gere)
Actress: 5/5
Sup Actor: 3/5 (Dennis Quaid, Alfred Molina)
Sup Actress: 4/5 (Michelle Pfeiffer - so snubbed  )

I'm VERY happy the voters saw the uplift in Crash's performances.

Jake Gyllenhaal's nomination is slightly unexpected (although not undeserved), but it shows just how strong Brokeback's momentum is.

I think Zhang and "Hustle & flow" are prettu unexpected. So is Don Cheadle.
