Post subject: | Oscar Predictions Game - RESULTS! |
Well, I think it is time for the Oscar nominations game that we have each year. This year should be a little harder to predict as we don't have benemoths like Return of the King coming out. Much more is up in the air than in the previous years. Will Scorcese finally be awarded for his work? Will the Academy nominate Uma Thurman and make up for her snub last year? We will learn all this when the nominations are announced on January 25th, 2005. Before that we can only predict and this is what this game is for. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here we go with the rules: There are three key dates for the predictions. The first is November 18th (about a week before the first really major contender, Alexander, comes out), second is December 12th (day before the Golden Globes nominees are announced), third is January 15th (day before the Golden Globes show) after which no predictions will be accepted. NOTE: Specify the movies for the Best (supporting) Actor/Actress nominees!!! BONUS-POINTS: 1) Those who predict BEFORE November 18th get 18 Bonus Points 2) Those who predict BEFORE December 12th get 10 Bonus Points So there are 3 key dates: November 18th (first deadline) December 12th (second deadline) January 15th (final deadline) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And here is the GAME: 1. Predict the 5 Best Picture nominees (10 points each) 2. Predict the 5 Best Director Nominees (10 points each) 3. Predict the 5 Best Actress Nominees (Again, specify which movie they'll be nominated for) (10 points each) 4. Predict the 5 Best Actor Nominees (10 Points each) 5. Predict the 5 Best Original Screenplay nominees (6 points each) 6. Predict the 5 Best Adapted Screenplay nominees (6 points each) 7. Predict EITHER the 5 best supporting actor nominees OR the 5 best supporting actress nominees (7 points each) 8. Predict the 3 Best Animated Film Nominees (5 points each) 9. Predict EITHER the 3 Best Visual Effects Nominees OR the 5 Best Foreign Movie nominees (the foreing movies are 5 and therefore harder to predict, but you can win points here) (5 points each) 10. Predict any other 3 categories you want. (worth up to 5 points each) (Note: In questions 7/9 you are asked to predict only either best supporting actor OR actress and either Best Foreign Movie or Best Visual Effects. If you, for example choose Actor and Foreign Movies, you can still predict the Best Supporting Actress and Best Visual Effects nominees here) (5 points each) Bonus Questions: 1. What will be the most nominated movie? (5 points) Tie Breaker: How many nominations will the most nominated movie receive? 2. What will be the most nominated studio? (7 points) Tie Breaker: How many nominations will that studio receive? 4. How many of the oscar nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress will be first-time nominees? (4 points) 4. Which of the following movies will be completely snubbed by the Academy: (3 points each) Kill Bill Vol. 2 Sideways Fahrenheit 9/11 The Passion of the Christ Troy Spider-Man 2 Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason A Very Long Engagement The Merchant of Venice The Manchurian Candidate The Terminal Napoleon Dynamite Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban I, Robot ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HAVE FUN! ![]() PS: Can someone sticky it, by any chance? |

Wait. So what's your definition of 'completely snubbed?' Like...NO nominations, or like...one...or two? |

GREAT Chris! I'm glad you're taking part! ![]() By the way, don't forget to predict a third category for question 10 as you have only two so far. Incase you misunderstood it, you can predict any 3 categories that you want in question 10, not necessarily Best Foreign or Best Sup. Actor. Any you want. Thanks again for participation! ![]() |

I'm almost certain Sideways won't be snubbed by the Academy. To be more precise, I think Alexander Payne will get nominated for the Best Director, although the movie itself may not be nominated, depending on how big a splash it can make when it continues to expand to over 1000 theaters. Payne has established himself with the Academy via About Schmidt. He will be the David Lynch of this year. Oh, Alexander is out of my predictions as well. |

Yeah, I'm not even sure it's worth it to enter before the second deadline. I'll probably wait until January. Right now I'd say for best picture: Finding Neverland Ray The Aviator and.... :? I'm not sure what else. Animated films is the only easy one IMO: Shrek 2 The Incredibles The Polar Express |
