 Re: The Nine Thread
Nine won't win BP In fact, I could see it pulling a Dreamgirls...it seems like the perfect BIG project to fail. Like Memoirs of a Geisha or Australia. Only doing better with the Oscars, but not getting a BP nom.

 Re: The Nine Thread
This seems a lot like Revolutionary Road - the hot early buzz, the cast, director, source material is all there and it sounds like the perfect BP film. Then it'll come out and just be pretty good, pick up maybe one or two major nominations, and (unlike Rev Road, since this is far more glamorous) get a number of tech noms.

 Re: The Nine Thread
I can't see Rob Marshall winning BP with two musicals in a row. However I could see it sliding into the Benjamin Button/Gangs of New York/Master and Commander strong runner-up with 10 noms+, slot.

I also can't see Rob Marshall's films winning two Best Picture awards. Period. Not two out of his first three films... Let's face one simple fact - since Chicago, not a single musical was even nominated. Not Dreamgirls, not Sweeney Todd...

 Re: The Nine Thread
Let's clear the air people, I never said it would win BP.
But the idea that because no other musical since Chicago has been nominated means Nine can't be nominated, that's kinda naive for a wid number of reasons.

Kidman looks great. Did she put a little weight? Because she looks softer and beautiful - not as bony.

The Weinsteins are behind this. This is a legitimate threat for a BP spot. Even if the reviews are mediocre. Have you all forgotten The Reader so soon?

They're not showing, Loyal. I love Nicole's [s]wig[/s]hair. La Loren has shades of purple in her face. Age it seems has finally caught up with her.

what's sad is that those should be her bad photos. All sweaty and off the record.
But nope, dazzling as usual.

 Re: The Nine Thread
and she likes Radiohead http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/ ... 661017.eceQuote: I cry, at some point, on many days. It can be over music or dance or a performance. I may cry over a letter or a memory. I had to go to Abbey Road Studios in London to record a song for a new musical film, Nine, and I was crying. It was the first time I had to sing in my life. I also cried with joy when I first met Sophia Loren on Nine. She is incredible and has been a true heroine of mine. When I say I love her, I mean that. She tells me all her wonderful stories about Federico Fellini and Marcello Mastroianni and her amazing life. She is 74 and I am lucky to know such a wonderful woman as a good friend. She has been very loving with me, too. I cried on the day we had to say goodbye, at the end of her filming. But we are going to meet again, in Rome, and this fills me with pleasure.
Music is my key. That is my passion. It opens a door for me so quickly. I listen to music every day. It includes Radiohead, opera and flamenco. The man to move me to tears is Caetano Veloso, from Brazil. He in his sixties and is a beautiful poet, so talented and one of the best musicians in the world. If I am feeling too emotional, I do not want to hear anything. I cry easily and his music would make me cry more.

 Re: The Nine Thread
Oh Harvey http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/Showbiz/ ... ticle.htmlQuote: Daniel Day-Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman's new film Nine is going sweep the board during the 2010 awards season, according to movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
The film - based on the Broadway musical about film director Guido Contini and the many women in his life - has only just finished shooting, but with an all-star cast including Marion Cotillard, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson and Black Eyed Pea Fergie it is set to dazzle.
Harvey, who watched the latest film gongs being handed out at the 2009 Baftas in London, was asked if Nine would be out for awards season next year. He said: "Oh yeah, most definitely. You'll see a lot of nominations. You'll see a lot of dancing too. Really, this is a great musical, a lot of great musical numbers. "It's directed by Rob Marshall. We won the Oscar for Chicago; hopefully we'll get in the arena again."
The producer also revealed that even with all those women on set, there were no divas or clashes of personality, and everyone became friends.
He said: "It's an amazing cast and they all became amazing friends and normally that doesn't happen. Normally those sets are turf wars but this is a complete sisterhood and great brotherhood by Daniel Day-Lewis." Penelope said: "It's an amazing group of actresses and Daniel is an angel, he's so patient and kind. This movie has been very special.
"The singing was the scary thing because I have never done that before but I have loved every second of this movie."

Re: The Nine Thread (New Oscar Winner On Board)
I'm becoming very excited. Its entire principle cast is made up of Oscar winners (well, can Kate Hudson and Fergie really be considered actors?)
Can't wait for a teaser/trailer

Re: The Nine Thread (New Oscar Winner On Board)
The biggest hurdle for the film is that it's music isn't user friendly the way Moulin Rouge! and Chicago were. In that regard, its more like Dreamgirls and Sweeney Todd.
But look at the above the line talent. It's a beast of epic proportions.

Re: The Nine Thread (New Oscar Winner On Board)
If Harvey can get The Reader into the race, assuming Nine gets good reviews (Chicago was 92% COTC) he should have a grand old time this year.

Re: The Nine Thread (New Oscar Winner On Board)
I'm still trying to wrap my head around who's most likely to get nominated and where.
2003 - Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical - Mary Stuart Masterson, Chita Rivera, and Jane Krakowski (winner) 2003 - Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical - Mary Stuart Masterson, Chita Rivera, and Jane Krakowski (winner) 1982 - Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Musical - Shelly Burch (nom), Liliane Montevecchi and Anita Morris (winners) 1982 - Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical - Karen Akers, Anita Morris, and Liliane Montevecchi (winner)
Karen Akers/Mary Stuart Masterson/Marion Cotillard = Luisa Liliane Montevecchi/Chita Rivera/Judi Dench = Liliane Anita Morris/Jane Krakowski/Penelope Cruz = Carla Shelly Burch/Laura Benanti/Nicole Kidman = Claudia Taina Elg/Mary Beth Peil/Sophia Loren = Guido's mum
The only female performance not be nominated is that of Guido's mum.
So it looks like Carla, Luisa, and Liliane are the ones to look out for, with Kidman's Claudia right behind.
I wonder how much of an issue will the names be, being they're similar to one another. Luisa/Liliane/Carla/Claudia. Silly things tend to bother people the most.
