 Re: Best Actress 2014
One person who definitely seems out despite considerable campaigning is Hilary Swank in The Homesman. I believe the film is just too difficult in a Cormac McCarthian way.
Adams versus Aniston. And maybe Blunt as a very dark horse?

I'd say Blunt gets in over Adams/Aniston.

She does not have the notices to make it in and is overshadowed by Streep and other co-stars in the film, apparently. The fact that it's a borderline supporting performance won't help either. Adams is AMPAS catnip and Aniston is campaigning to the heavens (and made both important precursors so far), so they're ahead.

 Re: Best Actress 2014
I still refuse to believe that Aniston will get in for a movie with middling reviews that NO ONE has heard of. I am gonna go with either Cotillard or Adams for the final spot.

Most of the reviews I read say she gives the film its heart and is the best after Streep and Pine. But I agree she will not get in. Meryl will be ITW's only acting nom.

 Re: Best Actress 2014
Could Pike be a serious threat to Moore? Moore's film is such a non-event...

I haven't seem Still Alice yet but I did think Pike was a great memorable performance. When Moore does get nodded though I can't see her losing for the sixth time. It's getting crazy at this point.

 Re: Best Actress 2014
Julianne is older by 14. It will just feel like she's overdue.

 Re: Best Actress 2014
I hope Julianne Moore wins. She is such a good actress. Amy Adams I wouldn't mind either. Blue Jasmine wasn't a huge event, but Cate Blanchett won.

zwackerm
No seriously, a simple zwackerm answer does not suffice. Blue Jasmine was one of Woody Allen's most successful films, it was much much much more widely seen than Still Alice will ever be and it was nominated for three Oscars in total.

 Re: Best Actress 2014
Best Actress seems to be one category that doesn't require a film to be commercially or even that critically successful for its corresponding person to win; thinking cases like Cotillard, Theron, Berry, Swank's first win, etc.

 Re: Best Actress 2014
Moore's win seems set. The film will not be a huge player, but viewers seem to enjoy it (they cry), and the narrative of her being hugely overdue has caught on.
