One (basically) locked Oscar win and another potential Oscar win, both for actors, is pretty fucking impressive at this point. Plus it's going to have the most nominations probably due to the technical aspects...

Well, if Dreamgirls wins the PGA, then I think that would indicate it's winning the Oscar Best Picture, in my opinion. So you would probably get a crapload of new members after the PGA winner is announced.
I say close it just before or after the PGA is announced or something. Unless you just want to keep it open all the way until the Oscars and let anyone join.
Peace,
Mike.

Can you imagine if Dreamgirls wins PGA, Departed wins DGA and Babel wins SAG Ensemble?
Would be a mess.
This Oscar season wasn't too bad to begin with, but it CERTAINLY has become a lot more interesting.

I say either Departed or Dreamgirls wins the PGA. Box Office n' all.
SAG Ensemble is going to be the single most interesting award coming.
What I think will happen...
DGA to Departed
PGA to Dreamgirls (backup: Departed)
SAG to Departed with Dreamgirls winning two... or maybe Leo winning Sup and Dreamgirls winning Ensemble?
I can't see Babel winning any of these, which is why I don't consider it serious BP material. Dreamgirls and Departed have strong ensembles that will prevent Babel from winning there... however if it does win the SAG Ensemble then it's Dreamgirls vs. Babel for BP.

What about Little Miss Sunshine? Is it lost in the shuffle now for the SAG Ensemble? I never thought it would get PGA or DGA, but I always thought SAG Ensemble was within grasp.
Peace,
Mike.

WHHHHHHY does this all look so much like The Hours vs. Chicago vs. Gangs of New York. Ensembles, musicals, Scorsese... split BP/BD, at the globes: Scorsese wins Director, Hours wins BP. Of course it's not perfect.
The main difference being the Acting wins for Hours and no PGA nomination for Hours. And Chicago won DGA vs. Scorsese. Even more embarassing... Scorsese has been nominated 7 times at the DGA and has never won, and he even has a Lifetime Achievement Award from them!!
But still... it's weird.

Re: Little Miss Sunshine... I think it would be tough to get past the other three at this point. Dreamgirls favors a minority audience that has been making waves (keep in mind that Ray and Hustle & Flow were both nominated), Departed is full of Hollywood standards, and Babel has a mixture of high profile actors and also has a mixed minority cast. Little Miss Sunshine just feels smaller, with some good actors but... I dunno.
I actually think Bobby has a better pedigree for a win than Little Miss Sunshine.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I may be inclined to eventually join this group if Departed falls away in the next couple weeks.
My biggest problem with Dreamgirls was always that it was another musical just 3 years after the last, not to mention a shiny, light, over the top Supremes-esque one. Girl gets kicked out of group, bad blood, a pregnancy, blah blah... From the first trailer on I never wanted THIS movie to win best picture.
But hey, it's better than Babel! Hell, I haven't even seen this movie, maybe I'll love it. gooooo Dreamgirllllllls.

Or The Queen winning WGA and LMS winning SAG Ensemble.
It's going to be very interesting.
BTW, I'm in. Have been feeling this for a while, but GG pretty much clinched it.

Members-at-large... hmm... I think Makeup and Documentary branches used to be Members-at-large until they got their own separate branch. Who else could be in that branch?

Who else could be in that branch? from the AMPAS site: Members-at-large are those engaged in theatrical film production, but for whose craft there is no separate branch.
Caterers.

Thanks loyal!
Eventhough it's nowhere near my top 10, I predict Dreamgirls to win Best Picture.

Wonderful speech!! I love Jennifer Hudson. The song clip just reminded me how great she can sing.
The only bad thing was that she clapped for herself (I hate that!) but it seems like everyone in the category clapped for themselves, so I can forgive her.
Peace,
Mike.

Just got back, its late so my review will come later but........... It was much better than I expected. Much better than Chicago which i didnt like. My Grade is an A. Its in my top 10 - probably lower half.
Oh and im absolutely convinced this will win Best Picture!

You bet!
I enjoyed the Departed a bit more - but I never got that 'best picture feel' from it. This film I did. And I'd be happy if it won. 5 or 6 Academy awards are looking good at this point.

Count me out of this one. Dreamgirls entertained me while I was watching but it was to bland to ever watch again.
