If Trial of the Chicago 7 wins then I’m gonna have to make some apologies to Moonlight and Birdman. I’d rather not do that. Nomadland may be not be the hero we want, but it just might be the hero we need.

Viola over Carrey is concerning, but they were obviously going for all non-white winners and that is fine for a precursor award.

The Father winning adapted screenplay is a small upset. Academy does love to spread awards around these days though.

This ceremony is so woke that every winner is making a political speech. I’m now concerned about Carey and my $40. Having a picture with all non-white acting winners might be too tempting for the academy to resist.

Soul's win for best animated feature is a complete shocker.

Indeed they even gave the costume and hairstyling to Black Bottom. I just feel they would not give a big award to a movie with pretty all-white actors.

I am surprised by this as well but maybe this was a conscious decision to keep things interesting given that the ceremony is online and they "think" things might be boring.

Mank pulls an upset Cinematography win over Nomadland. Nomadland is looking weak to win BP at this point.

Sound of Metal wins editing; another hit for Nomadland; though recently Academy has gone for different films in terms of Editing and BP.

Would two wins be the lowest for a best picture winner? I know several have done it with three.
