 Re: BAFTA nominations
I think DiCaprio, Adams and AH's chances would've had a heartbeat if they'd won here

 Re: BAFTA nominations
I believe adapted screenplay proved to be Philomena's strongest category because a win there most directly recognizes how the film has lent Steve Coogan, obviously an iconic comedian and cult figure in England, a new level of international prestige and respectability, including an audience with the Pope recently. The narrative of Alan Partridge writing a popular, topical Judi Dench drama no doubt charmed the voters.

I think it was awarded because it was a damn good screenplay. Being written by a Brit helped too.

 Re: BAFTA nominations
Gravity still wins Best British film there. I feel good about Gravity taking Best Picture at the Oscars now. 12YAS was expected to win there. Oops. edit.

I love the film, but of course being penned by a famous British film and television actor helped it.

What I meant is that it didn't matter whether he was Alan Patridge before or whatnot. Just being a successful Brit helped.
