 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
Hmmm, in that case Amy Adams should probably have an easy Best Actress win in Comedy/Musical.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
Indeed, although Meryl can never entirely be ruled out.
The actresses who score the other three spots (maybe Julie Delpy, Greta Gerwig, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus) will have to be satisfied with a nomination, even if they are more deserving.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
I could see the Globes going completely for Gravity. Obviously the HFPA embraces technical wizardry (see Avatar's wins). So awards for Picture/Director would not surprise me. Actress will probably go to Blanchett because the Globes also like Woody Allen. DiCaprio and Ejiofor will win Actor. Jennifer Lawrence will probably win Supporting Actress here and I could see Supporting Actor going to Fassbender or even James Gandolfini. Screenplay will be interesting and could show if some movie has real strength. I'm thinking American Hustle or Blue Jasmine for Screenplay.

I would not be surprised if McConaughey won Best Actor (Drama).

Hmm, I dunno, I think 12 Years a Slave will get something. And I don't see them giving it Picture or Director or Screenplay. If anyone will win instead of Ejiofor, it will be Hanks.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
I just believe the Hollywood Foreign Press will appreciate the spectacle of an A-list star and former People's Sexiest Man Alive delivering such an intense performance, one requiring a major physical transformation.

At the same time, Hanks might be one of the most beloved stars internationally. The HFPA awarded him for Cast Away against Russell Crowe. It's also Captain Phillips' only shot at a win, IMO, even though it will almost certainly be nominated for Picture/Director/Actor.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
I believe Idris Elba could score a nod here for Mandela.
Also, is it me or does the Comedy/Musical category looks the strongest ever this year?!
I mean even with Daid's picks, it means that films like Nebraska, Before Midnight and Enough Said will miss -and they would have been top contenders for noms in most other years.
I also expect a surprise in the Best Director line-up. David's looks too Oscar-y, the Globes go differently from time to time there, so I'm thinking Woody Allen instead of Greengrass maybe.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
Indeed, it is a strange year since American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street are comedies, plus Inside Llewyn Davis will be included there because it is a "musical."
Will unfortunately push smaller films such as Before Midnight, Enough Said, and Frances Ha out of categories where they may have scored otherwise.

There is a space:
12 Years a Slave Captain Phillips Gravity Lee Daniels' The Butler [Film number five]
Blue Jasmine? Rush? Saving Mr. Banks?

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
Of course, the Globes can also always come up with nominations you never saw coming. I almost try to predict them in my head, even though they are unpredictable by nature. Kate Winslet for Labor Day (because she has more red-carpet value than Adèle Exarchopoulos)! Sandra Bullock also nominated for The Heat!

Kate Winslet for Labor Day would be the Globes at their worst. I can actually see it happening.
The Tourist. Never 4get.

I am not sure Labor Day is exactly on the level of The Tourist...

Blue Jasmine? Rush? Saving Mr. Banks? Don't the Globes adore Woody Allen? I think Blue Jasmine is more likely than The Butler. Also, let's not forget that the Globes sometimes extend their BP category up to seven slots!

Those three noms for The Tourist were just the Globes trolling hard.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
Yeah, Best Musical/Comedy field is actually very crowded this year. American Hustle, August: Osage County, and The Wolf of Wall Street are surely in based on their star power alone, leaving only two spots. And Inside Llewyn Davis looks good there too. It may be the one with 6 nominees this year.

 Re: 71st Golden Globe Awards
I expect a lot of surprises tomorrow - the HFPA often pulls that shit on us. I could also see many categories that have more than 5 nominees - this looks like a really strong year for film and for the Comedy/Musical categories especially. My random thoughts / no guts, no glory:
- I think 'Her' will miss out on a Best Picture nom and may not get any recognition.
- I could see them double nominating Sandra Bullock (for both 'Gravity' and 'The Heat'), with 'The Heat' also getting nominated for Best Comedy.
- I could see 'The Great Gatsby' sneaking into the Best Drama category,
It's funny, I rag on the Globes all the time, but in some respects, I love how ridiculous they are and am excited for their nominations.
Peace, Mike
