Wouldn't it be hilarious if Milk won BP. But I'm not sure if I really want the year rescued or not.

This year hasn't been salvageable since nomination day.

Post Re: Oscar Voters Reveal Their Ballots
So, I've been reading these over again, and... some things are standing out like a sore fucking thumb.

The Actor in question says he feels Kate Winslet should win, not simply for her performance in The Reader, but for a second performance as well that went entirely unnoticed by the Academy, basically because she gave two leading performances and only one could get through. How is it fair to reward someone for a performance not even nominated? And Philip Seymour Hoffman gets the dude's vote simply because Doubt was a great movie. Seriously? I thought Slumdog Millionaire was a great movie. Doesn't mean I think Dev Patel or Freida Pinto should've been nominated just because it's a great movie (and they shouldn't have been, because they serve their purpose, but they didn't blow me away).

Now I was hoping the unnamed Director would have a bit more sense. But he/she doesn't. I'll leave alone the director's reasoning for Sean Penn, although I will say he should get new friends if they think Sean Penn really is gay because he plays Harvey Milk in a movie. That's like saying "I really thought that was Richard Nixon in the Ron Howard flick." I'll also ignore the pretentious view of Meryl Streep ("What can you say?" he says). But his/her Josh Brolin reasoning takes the ticket. "A true supporting performance", the Director says. ... yeah? So? I can name you a couple hundred performances last year that were true supporting performance because, you know... they weren't the leads in the movie. Doesn't mean they all need an Oscar nomination.

Now, I must quote the female Executive, because it's too good to be true.

Quote:
An Executive: woman

Actor: Sean Penn & Mickey Rourke
(Says it will have to be a last minute decision.
on Penn: "unbelievable,"
on Rourke: "his personal story [is] so moving... turned his chances with his speech at the Golden Globes. When he talked about his dogs, I wanted to cry.")

Actress: Undecided
("I didn't like any of those nominees."
on Jolie: "good,"
on Streep: "pretty good... but definitely not the best she's ever been."
on Winslet: "her speech at the Golden Globes, when she said [to herself], 'Gather,' I just thought, 'I don't know if I can ever see her in a movie again,"
on Hathaway: "great... but I wanted to take my skin off while watching that movie, so I can't vote for her.")

Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
("He was a wonderful actor and this is the only chance to honor him. You almost feel like the other nominees should just not show up.")

Let's start with Mickey Rourke. You're going to possibly give someone the biggest award of their career because they mentioned their fucking dogs at the Golden Globes? Seriously?

Next, she didn't like any of the Best Actress nominees. A fair statement to make. But thankfully, she doesn't spare us her Actress breakdown. Jolie escapes unscathed with a "Good" review. Next, Streep gives a performance worthy of a nomination but not worthy of the "Best Performance of Her Career" award which she, you know, isn't nominated for because, you know, it doesn't exist. But Winslet and Hathaway truly suffer. Winslet's performance at the Golden Globes was pretty bad, according to the Female Executive, and said Executive isn't certain if she'll ever watch a movie of hers again. Surely tongue-in-cheek (I hope), but rather stupid nonetheless. And finally, Hathaway was great. "GREAT." But, the movie made her want to peel her skin off, so she couldn't possibly vote for Anne. Mmmmmhm.

And finally, Heath Ledger delivers the best performance of the year. That's me saying that. Female Executive? She thought it was great too, but she's more inclined to vote for Heath because this is the only chance to honor him. Don't pity vote for the guy. I know she's not alone on that, but it doesn't make it any less insincere.

Yeah, I have too much time on my hands, but these comments from the Actor, Director and Executive made me laugh, so I felt like responding. No need to pick apart my responses.

I just noticed something. While the Actor and Director got fairly descriptive backgrounds (and their Oscar status), the Executive only got "A woman."

It's probably one of the producers for Crash.

These make for an interesting read.

But from a statistical/empirical standpoint they are completely and utterly useless in predicting anything.
