Re: Official Poster For The 81st Annual Academy Awards
Sideways - 5 noms There Will Be Blood - 8 noms
As for MC,
Sideways - 24 100's There Will Be Blood - 21 100's No Country for Old Men - 20 100's Slumdog - 10 100's
By your calculations, Sideways would have beaten Slumdog too.
So Sideways beats Slumdog, No Country beats Slumdog, and There Will Be Blood beats Slumdog. Some movie.

So Sideways beats Slumdog, No Country beats Slumdog, and There Will Be Blood beats Slumdog. Some movie. Dude, what I am pointing at...that is a ridiculius comparison. Sideways would have crucified Slumdog at the critics awards, YES. And would have lost the Oscar. Million Dollar Baby and The Aviator have ALWAYS been frontrunners for BP ahead of Sideways, even though Sideways sweeped the critics awards and not those two. As freakin' simple as that. Critics' awards don't mean much. Awards attention helps films, yes, but not critics' awards so much. More stuff like Golden Globe. Which Slumdog would have won easily (TWBB didn't even get a Best Director nom!).

Re: Official Poster For The 81st Annual Academy Awards
Dude...Sideways still got more to show off. I don't wanna go through all the critics' #1 votes, but I'm sure Sideways has landed at least just as many. Critics orgasmed over it.
Oh man that's so pointless...but wait a sec...

we're overshadowing the other thread. Just admit There Will Be Blood would have eaten and shat out Slumdog and we can focus on No Country also eating and shitting out Slumdog.

Loyal, admit that during their respective Oscar races, Sideways figured MUCH MUCH MUCH more than TWBB! Dammit, that's so obvious.

I mean, its a movie where a guy that looks like 99.95% of critics gets to have sex with Virigina Madsen. That gives it an obvious advantage over most Oscar films. But the fact remains, Sideways had less Oscar noms than Ray, Finding Neverland, Million Dollar Baby, and The Aviator. And There Will Be Blood tied for the most nominations with No Country. For the record, I love them about equally, though my heart is a bit soft for Sideways.

Just admit that aside from the number of Oscar noms and the BAFTA snub, nothing shows any advantage for TWBB. Getting four SAG noms and winning Ensemble as well as winning WGA, BFCA and NYFCC/LAFCA goes a long way : )

And mind you, I liked both a lot too, given both the same grade (though I slightly prefer Sideways)...

Re: Official Poster For The 81st Annual Academy Awards
Wait... why are we comparing Sideways to TWBB?
I thought we were just saying TWBB would stomp Slumdog?
In fact, I don't think they would've released Slumdog in theaters if they knew about TWBB.
