Not a surprise, but Andy Griffith will be nominated and win.

I emailed my thoughts on DDL to Mr. Wells yesterday and I guess he took it to heart and beyond, passing them off as his own today on his site.

He begrudgingly gave me a postscript credit after I outed the whole mess in his comment section. :funny:

Yeah, he was kind of an ass about.

It's not even like he just borrowed your ideas -- he kind of plagiarized a little.

Ok. Well that's a little less awkward, though it still comes across as kinda lame, especially his note at the end. I thought he really was just reading the boards and stealing material...or it was some incredibly strange coincidence. :O

Psh, Wells has always been kind of an asshole. And a creepy one at that.

Jeff Well deserves a few furious kicks to the nuts.....though it's questionable if he has any.

Why exactly is Amy Ryan being declared a frontrunner in her category? Critics' favorites rarely end up winning the Oscar. If she wins GG/SAG/BFCA then her so-called frontrunner status would make sense...but I wouldn't be at all surprised is she lost all three.

I think Blanchett will win the SAG and after that, it'll be her race.

I think Sweeny Todd will get snubbed in the major categories.

that feeling is starting to grow with me too. :(

NCFOM and TWBB and Juno are in, Atonement is holding up very well, and I'm starting to feel like Michael Clayton is doing too well to miss out on a nomination. At the very least, I hope Burton picks up a Best Director nom

I think what makes it so creepy is that his prose and writing is still very good and very slick, it's like if the guy from Double Indemnity wrote a horny letter.

Oh and the reason I don't think Lewis' 2 wins in 4 noms thing won't become a factor, is because his closest thing to a competition right now is Clooney. Who would have 2 Oscars in 2 nominations. I think Depp is... mostly out.

Also, that list shows the total nominations, but not the number they had when they won. Hanks and Tracy won their 2nd Oscars on their 3rd nominations, for example.

So yeah, I'd say Lewis has this one.

I think There Will Be Blood will be stronger than a lot of people think. It's the only film that has as much passionate support as No Country, and its limited opening is great too (but then, so was PDL's). Could easily see it being close behind NCFOM, and it can nab up to 11 nominations.

Best Picture, Director, Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography, Editing, Score, Sound, Art Direction, Costumes, Makeup. That's 11.

Supporting Actor is looking like a longshot, but I hear it's deserving, and there's usually a surprise nominee in the Actor categories every year.

yeah, it really could sweep up all the tech categories as far as a nomination go. Outside Sound I guess, all of the technicalities for this movie are perfect and even add to the feel of the film.

Spoiler: show
Especially the ending...the entire film until then had featured "old America" - barren landscape, oil rigs, old houses, etc... but when we flash forward to the end, we see how America has evolved, which is a huge theme of the story. Instead of taking place in an old house or near an oil rig, it takes place in a bowling alley, which likely was one of the most revolutionary creations of the time. And that's just Art Direction. There's even more brilliant things about the Score, cinematography, costume design, etc...

i think it should manage ten nominations. if it goes one or two past that, all the better. And I REALLY hope Dano gets in...he's not as good as DDL, but he more than holds his own in scenes featuring the two of them. Not to mention, he's a very young guy, and it's a lot harder to come across as convincing at a young age [just like there's no such thing as a bad performance by a very old actor since there's so little that is expected of them]

I see 6-7 noms for There Will Be Blood, but I hope the 10+ noms prediction comes true, of course.

Atonement won't win anything. At all.

*ducks*

Maybe, it's a lock for at least one in Picture/Director, Actor (that's two), Cinematography (three), Score (four), probably for Screenplay (five).

At the beginning of the season and after watching NCFOM, i was 100% nothing was going to stop it from winning Best Picture. Now i have a sneaky feeling that TWBB is gaining a bunch of momentum and could sneak up for the win. While i am sure it will not get as much praise as NCFOM, i don't think that really matters any more after the Crash win. Still NCFOM is loved across the board and has more of an all star cast to give it the "more obvious" best picture choice.
I guess my biggest problem is that i think NCFOM is the most overrated film to come out in a long time. Hopefully when i see TWBB, all of my mental quarrels will be put aside.
