Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
I still wanna know what NBR is pulling with this 11 films in the Top 10 bit. Even Variety is clueless, saying "The rest of the top ten (in alphabetical order)", and then listing 10 MORE films beside No Country.
Allowing 11 films in the top 10 kinda changes slightly any comparisons we can make to past years with NBR.
Peace, Mike

And I'm happy for inclusion of Nanking in documentary. It's a story that should be known by more people. Hope it get an Oscar nomination too.

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
Any chance TWBB got categorized as 2008 film and therefore is ineligible? I mean, it doesn't premiere till late Jan....even though they've all probably seen it. It just doesn't seem like it would get a total snub.

Does this mean Bourne has a small shot at Best Adapted Screenplay for Oscar? Best Editing should be a lock at least right?

Screenplay is VERY weak this year, but it'll need a mention from WGA or a critic's award to even be considered there. It has a good shot at Editing though, an maybe even Cinematography (If they were into that sort of shooting). Still, with its acclaim and notes here and likely at BFCA, it really almost seems as though it should be in contention.

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
Ok...
Expected for Best Film and for me, expected for Best Director. I knew they would split, hence my predictions alternating with winner and alternative but I got the order wrong.
No love for There Will Be Blood. I feared this would happen. I think we all pegged it a seemingly lock way too early when it was very apparent it was un-Academy like. If it gets minimal mention this weekend then I'd consider outside the top 5.
No love Charlie Wilson's War. this film is driving me nuts. It's the kind that can still get in even with little awards attention because of its pedigree, so it's nowhere near out.
Atonement barely gets noticed. This doesn't bode well for a win but it's on its way to a nomination regardless. I'm wondering now, though, if Joe Wright might miss out on a director nom. Ben Affleck, Sean Penn, and Sidney Lumet are all legitimate contenders for the Director with no Best Picture nod.
What I LOVED: Emile Hirsch, Into the Wild, Ben Affleck, Lars and the Real Girl
Why is everyone so caught off guard with Lars and the Real Girl? It got good reviews and I think it will probably end up in my top 10. I loved the movie. Gosling, Mortimer, Schnieder, Clarkson... loved em all.
What I didn't love: nothing really, maybe No Country getting alot of support. I'm not pissed but a little annoyed that I didn't see it as a masterpiece and that's like the overwhelming consensus. And I've made my peace with Julie Christie... mostly because the race is so weak, I'm not really rooting for anyone in particular (then again, I'm watching La Vie En Rose this weekend, so I may change my mind).

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
The NBR site itself is now updated. Well, according to the NBR, the best film of the year is No Country for Old Men, but it's absolutely NOT one of the top ten best of the year! Get it straight people. It's the number one film of the year, but not in the top ten of the year. Yeesh, what a lame change. Will NBR be doing this from now on? At least call it the Top 11 if you're going to do that. Peace, Mike

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
Yeah, I figured they were doing something like that because the documentary and foreign film categories are the same way.
I guess they mean/should change it to top 10 (or 5) runners up.

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
where the fuck is There Will Be Blood.
solid picks, i guess. Huge surprises seeing Bourne Ultimatum and Bucket List on the list. The latest TWBB review says that with one film, PTA has turned from solid artistic filmmaker to the most talented visionary in the business.

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
George Clooney's win is a little ridiculous. He played a straightforward George Clooney in Michael Clayton. While it worked with his character, it was hardly anything more than a "very good performance." If DDL couldn't win over him, I have a feeling the film wasn't even screened for the NBR.'
is it possible the filmed wasn't screened for them? I mean, I'm sorry, but I already know DDL's performance will blow Clooney's out of the water. And from its reviews (9/9 100% with an 8.3 avg), it's getting nothing but raves. I don't see how it would have missed out on ANY mentions unless it just wasn't screened for them.

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
Go Burton. Deserves to win every Best Director Award each year he has a film.

Re: NATIONAL BOARD of REVIEW WINNERS!
i'm not calling them bad films by any means, but hardly best of the year. Batman Begins was proof of what they lacked.

They are the weaker films by Burton, imo (excluding Mars Attacks! since I really doubt many were expecting it to be a quality film, it was funny though! And Planet of the Apes because Burton had very little to do with the movie, and shows that he needs 100% control ALL THE TIME!!!!!!. I'd still give them a (Batman)B+ and (Batman Returns)A-. But it's just what type of films I like. Not a big superhero/comic fan. BUT! Batman was able to get me somewhat interested in them, at least when it came to film, and Batman Returns made that interest go even higher. I really love Batman Returns. The look and feel of the movie is incredible, and I love how the villians pretty much overshadow the interest in Batman. It's still my favorite superhero film

When I saw the Sweeney footage and the Burton talk last month, he made a public apology for Planet Of The Apes He said that making a movie for the sole reason of putting actors in ape outfits is never a good idea
