Re: Best Director 2014 I think Nolan, Linklater, Iñárritu and Tyldum seem very very likely right now. The fifth spot is up for grabs between Miller, Jolie, Eastwood, Fincher and Burton.

Linklater, Iñárritu, and Tyldum look to be locks (although there is really no lock in this category after what happened a couple of years ago), and Duvernay looks very strong given her film's reviews, then you still have Fincher/Jolie/Eastwood. Think Nolan is pretty much certain to not getting nominated though.

Re: Best Director 2014 I don't know if Tyldum is such a lock. He is not overdue, it's a relative newcomer and has done mostly TV work. I did like Headhunters, but as you said, if Affleck and Bigelow didn't get nominated a couple of years ago, who knows what will happen.
Right now I see Linklater, Iñarritu and Duvernay in. Tyldum almost there and Fincher, Eastwood, Marsh and the big unknown, Jolie, fighting for the last spot.
