As I said in another thread last night, I thought Stewart started out slow. Some of those initial jokes were kind of stale, but after that I thought he really warmed up and displayed some quick wit. Overall I thought he was solid, and wouldn't complain if he did it again.
However, I do think Stewart is less "Hollywood" than what we should see in an Oscar host. I think people like Steve Martin and Billy Crystal are more suited for the part.
Agreed.
I'm a huge Daily Show fan, and I think Stewart is one of the funniest people you will find on television. He looked uncomfortable on stage for the Oscars, though, and I don't think his humor as it was rpesnted Sunday night fits the awards. Once the night really started to show how funny he is (the FYC ads, some of the quick-wit comments) I started to appreciate him. But there just wasn't enough IMO. It's like the producers tried to create the traditional award show, and Stewart, try as he might, could not break that mold. But he tried damnit.
I agree with the assessment that he's too political. Not Hollywood enough. Not that it's bad. But it's just no the Oscars. I'd still like him to host again though. I just don't think he will.
