Haynes might win Director this year. McCarthy doesn't need to win and Haynes has had a quality career worth it

In other news... LAFCA's lunch break in the middle of their awards every year is soooo annoying

More signs pointing to Mad Max as a legit contender

Creed as a runner-up. TBS

But yeah, I am loving the industry's acceptance of Fury Road.

Not really industry's acceptance, but critics, which shouldn't really be a surprise given its reviews (18 100s at MC and an 89 average).Whether academy members should go for it beyond technical nominations remain to be seen. Guilds will show the level of industry acceptance.

Critics are a part of the industry, and they pretty much set what is and isn't good, which then funnels into society and can affect boards such as the Academy, which are essentially just glorified critics.

Spotlight is such a middle-of-the-road movie.

The two demographics are quite different though. Critics groups, especially the online ones, skew younger and with more diverse background and taste, while academy members are 94% white, 76% men, and have an average age of 63.

Point taken.

But I still feel that Fury Road has been widely accepted. Critics, movie-goers, cinephiles...it's ONLY the Academy that is left.

Thatb is as untrue as it gets. Boyhood and The Social Network steamrolled through the critics awards. See how far it got them at the Oscars.

It got them nominated.

Being as untrue as it gets would mean that they did not even get a single nomination. But they did.

At no point did you state that critics matter for nominations only, but not at all for the wins.

I didn't state specifics. You drew your own conclusions.
