 RIP Up
I think we can give up hope now. Not just WALL-E not surprising, but the TDK snub shows just how far down the ladder they're willing to climb to nominate their usual trash over something that doesn't quite fit.
So, goodbye Up. It was never happening, but now we can stop pretending.

 Re: RIP Up
You might as well RIP Watchmen as well (not sure if anyone was even thinking about it yet).
And Avatar is on extreme life support. Tubes and shit are running everywhere, blinking lights and all.

 Re: RIP Up
you guys know good and well that if Watchmen gets insane reviews and makes $75 Million opening weekend, someone somewhere will go on about righting the wrongs of TDK and that critics should remember the film at the end of the year. You can pretty much go down the line of award bloggers and whichever ones supported TDK, will do the same with Watchmen.
Avatar is another story entirely.

Of course. It will be people at KJ and as with TDK or King Kong or whatever it won't mean shit.

These TDK and WALL-E snubs, if nothing else, show that the Academy isn't nearly as fresh and liberal and progressive as we thought they were in recent years. They still love their Oscar bait. It's just that The Departed and No Country and TWBB (among others) confused them by being terrific films as well.

Of course. It will be people at KJ and as with TDK or King Kong or whatever it won't mean shit. And columnists on AD, Incontention, Goldderby. TDK was most definitely not limited to KJ posters (neither was KK for that matter).

And Kris Tapley and Sasha Stone, like Shack or Benjamin Milk, don't mean shit.
Gunslinger's an exception. Dude knows what's up.

Now looking back I'm starting to wonder how ROTK actually managed to win.

 Re: RIP Up
ROTK was like David Lean but with fantasy creatures. And they got browbeat with it three years in a row.

 Re: RIP Up
Seriously...I think the pressure was simply too high because ROTK still doesn't fit their mold.
And Pixar will get a BP nod one day. It might take some time, but if they continue to churn out beloved films like WALL-E and Ratatouille, eventually the pressure will get too great.

I've been saying for some time that 1906 might be Pixar's big Oscar player, which sadly enough, is a live-action film.

 Re: RIP Up
I think they won't have a chance to get nominated for another five or ten years at least. This was a pretty firm "fuck you", though not as bad as it was for TDK.
