Original concept, revolutionary marketing, but an average movie. C.

Re: The Blair Witch Project
I have to see this again.
My opinion over the years has ranged from "erhmmm...it was okay" to "omg... this was really revolutionary and effective filmmaking!!!" I can only remember one movie to make that same impression on me in a large period of time, without seeing the movie in question lately: David Cronenberg's Crash.

Re: The Blair Witch Project
when I first watched it, I felt immense disappointment, but as I thought more and more about it, and then considered the budget on top of everything, this is a fantastic horror film. It is so suspenseful that its "over-suspension" is why the ending doesn't feel as shocking or satisfying as one would hope for, and the entire point of the ending was that there was no way they could have made it good in any way with that little of a budget to work with, and I have a feeling that after hearing so much about the Blair Witch, revealing her (or him?) would have killed everything the movie worked towards. While its ending was still kinda abrupt, I'd consider this a visionary horror film, even if there was no way even the people involved thought it would turn out the way it did.

C+ Dam I hadnt seen this since 2000 and that was my review. I saw it again for about 20 minutes, I couldnt even get through it. This movie was a joke. I wont give it an F just because it was a phenomenon. D

Re: The Blair Witch Project
I've always liked to theorize that there never was a witch within the story of the film.
And the two dudes just killed Heather after going insane after the stupid bitch caused them all to get lost in tha woodz, and that's who wtf pwned Heather in the end. Implausible, filled with holes, doesn't explain the baby crying, the tent being shaken, the teeth, or how they could build wood and rock shizz at night without her hearing, but it's what I lioke to think.
Why not?

Re: The Blair Witch Project
One of the rare horror movies that managed to sucker me into the theatre in the 90's - - what a waste of time.

Re: The Blair Witch Project
One of my absolute favorite horror films. One of my favorite films in general, honestly. The way it fires the imagination through such simplicity, and through top-notch mythology building in the first act, is wonderful. And it may be the only found-footage film where there is a profound dimension to the form: as their situation becomes more grim and devoid of hope, filming each other, documenting their very existence, is the only agency still available to them. The often parodied confessional scene where she apologizes for her hubris is a showstopper.

Re: The Blair Witch Project
I seriously need to watch this again. I hated this when I saw it in theaters. When I watched it on video a couple years after I didn't hate it as much but still wasn't fond of it. I really feel like I'd appreciate this so much more now as my taste has broadened. I probably would have hated movies like It Follows, The Babadook, and The Witch had they been released way back then and I'd seen them upon release.
This was ahead of its time with the whole "found footage" angle. Crazy to think this format didn't get popularized until Paranormal Activity. Maybe nobody bothered because "The Blair Witch Project" was so hated by audiences. Would love to witness another box office phenomenon like these two. It's great when a movie comes out of nowhere and just becomes a juggernaut.
I know general audiences despised it, but I am sort of surprised so many people here hated it.
