This is Marty's one night fever trip movie, resembling more of what the Coen Brothers would come to be known for than Scorsese himself. I really like that he dipped his toes in all these different genres though. Crazy to think that he didn't really even become the Gangster Movie guy until 15-20 years into his career.

I was torn on After Hours for most of the runtime for a single reason - I couldn't tell whether the protaganist was meant to be an unlucky everyman, or an arrogant selfish idiot who caused all of his own problems but always had someone else to blame for them. The former would have been a bad and annoyingly oblivious look for this movie. But the ending has me convinced that me and Marty are on the same page here. This wasn't bad luck. This was a character who was being punished for being a selflish imbecile.

So I'll give a 7.5. I've seen this movie done better by others, but was fascinating to see Marty's version of it.

I had no idea Scorsese made this film. It really took me by surprise as I had no idea what it was even about. I just saw it in a list by someone of "seven movies I wish I could see again for the first time", and it was the only one I hadn't yet seen so I checked it out. Brilliant movie. That Scorsese fella is really talented. He's gonna go places

Strangely, it reminded me of Lost Highway, but with an 80s in-the-city comedy vibe to it, and it stars not just the dad from Home Alone but the mum too!

I really love how everything links up and/or comes full circle. Is it just an unlucky coincidence? Does it even matter, is it just for entertainment? Is it a commentary on something? I'm not too sure to be honest, I just know that I laughed plenty and enjoyed it immensely, and it is shot really well for such a seemingly throwaway jaunt. It also got me thinking why the hell we didn't see Griffin Dunne again. He did a very good job.

Back to Scorsese, I'm glad one of his comedies has worked for me because I thought King of Comedy was shit.
