 Re: Here
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Back to the Future Part II absolutely broke Robert Zemeckis. Ever since he went back-to-back with those two he's been chasing technology over story. He's gotten away with it quite a bit (Cast Away looks more and more likely to the be the last great film he makes), but with Pinocchio and this he is completely gone. Beowulf and A Christmas Carol were at least entertaining. Pinocchio doesn't exist and this everything people complain Forrest Gump was (haven't seen it in years, but loved it). And it's nothing more than a gimmick. The "one shot" stops being impressive after ten minutes, and the AI de-aging looks awful. There's no way Zemeckis thought this looked good. And the fact he waited five years for the technology to catch up to him...he should've kept waiting until death.
This also has maybe the most unearned ending of any film this year. Hanks and Wright act the shit out of it, but it doesn't work.
La-Z-Boy couple was easily the best aspect.
Spanish Flu, Black Lives Matter, COVID-19? It's all treated daftly here.
D+
Someone give Zemeckis a small script that doesn't require any technology whatsoever. I genuinely wonder if he's capable of making a small film again. Something like Used Cars or hell even something like Romancing the Stone. Come back to us Bob!

 Re: Here
Zemeckis, Lee and Cameron all got lost in the game in terms of the visual effects.
