 Love and Death
Love and Death Quote: Love and Death is a 1975 comedy film by Woody Allen. Starring Woody Allen and Diane Keaton, Love and Death is a satirical take on Russian epic novels. Coming in between Sleeper and Annie Hall, Love and Death is in many respects an artistic transition between the two. It is one of the last of Allen's movies that tries to get as many laughs as possible, but contains a lot of commentary on philosophy, a balance that Allen feels makes it one of his best and most personal films. Keaton and Allen, as Sonja and Boris, Russians living during the Napoleonic Era, engage in mock-serious philosophical debates.

 Re: Love and Death
Allen must have had a gun to his head that obliged him to make every single line a form of a joke, either that or he sold his soul to keep the gag rate so insanely high.
Funny Allen was my favourite and this was his best.

Love and Death
Impressed but not overly so. It's like a Woody Allen version of Barry Lyndon or War and Peace. It is filled with the usual Allen craziness, his signature narration to the audience, and his dialogue-heavy, clever comedy. The jokes are neat (some of them even made me laugh), and it's miles better than Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Sex* (* But Were Too Afraid to Ask), but it still lacks the comedic relevance and situational brilliance of Bananas.

 Re: Love and Death
An early in his career Allen film and it's another good one, I'm not really keeping track of ranking of my Allen films so not sure where I put in terms of all those I've seen. It's not among my favorites but he just does not disappoint with this either. He's just so good a delivering witty dialogue while dealing with our societal events. In addition there's just some plain humor as well and is crisp to watch, it's not a long film too. It's remarkable actually how a film from the 70's is so easily entertaining. And Diane Keaton is great in this too. I like how this goes a bit left field to by putting the setting in 1800's Russia, felt a bit hesitant to even put it on because of that. But it works even and just shows to the talent of Allen, I'm sure he has a few duds, but the more I see of his works so far, the more he solidifies himself to me as an extraordinary filmmaker.
