I found this both overly sentimental and overly grim. I could not connect to it at all. I did like the cat though.

A Quiet Place Day 1 is mildly entertaining and rarely boring, but it retreads too much of the first 2 movies to leave any impact.

Thought the first half was pretty strong. Lupita is excellent as usual. I think once Joseph Quinn gets introduced it loses momentum but not anything bad.

Lupita is amazing. But honestly, while it has its moments - this was just plain unnecessary and slight. Not befitting of the franchise. And problematic considering it was sold as an alien invasion type pic with substantially more action.

This felt more like a "one off" special episode about two specific people in Season 1 of A Quiet Place: Day One on Netflix.

I liked the cat though.

I enjoyed this quite a bit, while I did not care too much for Nyong'o situation her performance is great and I really like how this expanded the Quiet Place universe by telling a story at the origin of these aliens arrival. Also Joseph Quinn is very good, until Gladiator II I didn't know him, but I'm starting to like him now. The cat is a nice addition as well, but considering the precarious world created with these aliens it does feel impossible for any pet being able to be part of it. And this film is just really helped by continuing on that strong premise of the first film. While that delivered a unique atmosphere this doesn't match it also had its own issues and because of the way this film is bigger in scope and offers a new perspective too I ultimately like them similarly. I hope to see more stories in this universe.

Prequelitis ruined this one. And I thought it was a lame alien invasion film. It doesn't really care about that aspect. It's more concerned with her and her father's connection, and her mental health / getting a pizza, which some random stranger seems to also care about. Weird film. Such a step down from the first two.

Summary: it is so lacking in a pulse, the blockbuster equivalent of a shrug.
